Mine is sick and tired of the crate, and tried to rip it apart (with no luck) yesterday during a thunderstorm. She's out of pain killers and unhappy about that, too. That's affected her appetite and digestion, but since she doesn't move around much it makes sense she's not all that hungry. Lucy is one of those dogs that you can leave food out for and she'll only eat what she's hungry for*. Keeps her skinny. She's getting more strength in her right hind leg, which is good because 2 weeks ago she couldn't move it at all. Now she can lift it and "inspect herself." Progress!

Just got an update on Athena from my brother. She's been having trouble keeping food down but is drinking a lot of water and peeing regularly, so the fears of kidney failure (which is a constant worry with this dog) are subsiding. Her swelling is coming down too, though she's going to continue to be sick for quite a while as her body continues to flush both the venom and the antivenin from her body.

*Except bacon. She'll stab you in the back for bacon and eat all she can stuff until she pops.

My dog walks off leash with a group of 12 or so dogs... They run off leash for about an hour each morning in a wooded area. 2 of the dogs have picked up ticks this week. What are you guys using? My dog sleeps on our bed, so I'm not crazy about putting any external oily treatment on him. It seems like there are quite a few options. I've never dealt with it before. Thanks for your suggestions.

We give our girls both Heartgard and Bravecto. Lucy had been through a $$$ deworming after we discovered she had them (we think of it as "rescue roulette") and aren't taking any chances with small bitey things anymore. Three years in and we're still parasite free, and we have a lot of deer around us.

Update on my Sadies relatives litter. Luna is doing well with her 11 pups. Wish I was getting one. They are now nearly 4 weeks old.

I have used nexguard for the past few years. Might have to change that though since my pup is on seizure meds now and the two don't mix very well apparently.

I go between several. Apparently, they lose effectiveness over time so judicious use (during the season) and switching it up. Been using Nexguard, K9-Advantix, and Simpleguard. Will probably go back to Advantix since it's also good for ticks-many are not.

Unfortunately can't do Advantix since it's poisonous to the cat overlords let us live with them. I used to use Frontline but it seemed to have stopped working which is when I switched to Nexguard. I'll have to ask the vet about other options since I really do prefer the chews compared to the goop you put on the skin.

My grandfather cut a 12" wide strip out of an 8' sheet of plywood, then cut it into two 4' sections connected with a full-length brass hinge and brace*. He sealed the plywood with something, then put cheap astro-turf carpeting on it, folded it in half, and tossed it into the back of his truck. Beau (our 95 pound hound with hip issues) used that ramp to get in and out of the truck with ease.

*was metal, replaced with two pieces of 2x2 intended to simply keep the ramp from folding in on itself when it was straightened out.
