GOOD eye!! Most people don't ever pick up on that...the guy I bought it from dropped it, and after buying a new '05 side fairing, he found out the 03 nose wouldn't accept the '05 side, so he replaced all the plastics with '05.

    Excellent work outta you.

Very nice, indeed. Then again, I might be biased since I have an '03 999! I noticed you are using your bed rails to tie down the front end...any concerns with that? I also noticed you are running mis-matched rubber front/rear. Have you noticed any issues with that?

Rubber is a matched set, Pilot Power 2CT. The front wheel is actually in a Pelican wheel chock, you can see it if you look closely. The front straps are just to keep the chock from sliding on the comp bed, they're not overly tight. I probably wouldn't use only the bedrail cleats to secure a bike without the chock platform.

How did you mount the chock to the bed? One of the main reasons I gave up my Jeep and bought this truck was for bike hauling ability, as I need something to get me to the track.

Nice Stylus...Chromag makes pretty sick hardtails. Was trying to convince my buddy to go that route but ended up with the On One 456. Going to build a Chromag Monk or another BlkMrkt this summer. Had a riot before, shouldn't have sold it.

I've owned and hauled bikes in pickups since the late '80's and I've never used a chock.

Here's my morsel of advice for bike hauling in pickups (this applies to sport/street bikes only).

First, I believe you should only ever put the bike in straight. Not an an angle. This makes tying the bike down easier, plus makes it easier to see if they start to lean.

Second, do not leave the kickstand down. It can break the frame where the stand attaches to the bike - I've seen this happen.

Third, don't tie the bike down too tightly. This seems to be the most common mistake. Too tight and you'll blow fork seals. It needs to have enough slack so the bike suspension can still move when you go over a decent sized bump.

Fourth, do NOT use ratchet straps. Its too easy to over-tighten, and it's very difficult to release them slowly. I cant tell you how many bikes I've seen get slammed down when a ratchet strap release abruptly. Traditional motorcycle straps are the best - and buy a good, quality pair and replace them every two or three years. I'm amazed at how many people trust their $10,000 to a $15 pair of wal-mart tie downs that look like they are 10 years old. Also, be sure to tie down any excess strap materal so it doesn't slap around. A good way to do this is to tie a slip-knot with the excess back into the buckle of the tie-down.

And finally, if you are able, tie the bike down to the lower triple clamp using soft-straps or the new motorcycle tie-downs that have an integrated soft-strap. If the bodywork doesn't allow this, then it's best to use a CanyonDancer or similar product to avoid snarfing bodywork and gas-tanks.

I cut a piece of 3/4 OSB to fit juuust right between the wheel humps and the forward wall of the bed, and I bolted the base plate of the chock to that with some round-faced lag bolts, with the threads facing up.

I painted the OSB with the same exterior latex I used on my trailer decking, and added a package of non-skid particles to the paint before I put on a couple coats. It doesn't get slippery when it's wet, and adds a bit of texture so the front tire can grip on it as we load / unload the bikes.

I left a little bit of room when cutting the OSB,and put a strip of garage door weather strip on the front. It seats nicely against the bed, and prevents any metal parts from scratching the bed wall.

The chock keeps the bike in place, and the ratchet straps keep the whole package held in place against the forward bulkhead of the bed. Works realy well.

All really good advice. I have two canyon dancers, and a shit ton of soft-ties as well. I use them religously.

Here's a few other tricks I've learned from hauling bikes all over the country over the past few years:

    - Always load bikes facing forward. NEVER backwards in a bed or open trailer.

    - Use duct tape or zip ties to wrap and secure the loose ends of the straps after you've finished strapping the bike down. Those loose ends flapping in the wind will destroy your paint with a quickness.

    - Practice redundacy when securing the bike. If one strap fails, you don't want to lose the whole load. 4 on the front, two on the back is perfect.

    - Check your straps after the first 25 miles or so, and then every time you stop after that. Straps stretch out a bit and loads shift. Always.

Nice to see the SV represented, I love me some SVs!

I've had two, and the wifey is on her second as well. I had a 2000 naked, and an '05 SV1KS. Here's a couple shots of mine.
