The wheels on this thread make me reconsider my wheel choice. :annoyed: I have some SCS Stealth 6's waiting to go on my truck, but I like them less and less the more I watch this thread LOL

This thread has had me thinking about getting some vintage JDM wheels for my Tacoma for a while now but I’ve yet to find a worthwhile deal on a set I liked.

I just found a set of Lodio Drives but was hoping to get some insights from y’all since they could use refinishing.

They look straight but have a lot of corrosion. I’m not too worried about the inner barrels or backside of the faces since they don’t show.

Looks like the clear coat is damaged and maybe some corrosion to the aluminum underneath? Has anyone else been in the same situation? If I strip the clear off is it likely the faces would need to be re-cut to get rid of the corrosion? I suppose paint/powder is always an option too.

And all the logos and writing… we’re they decals or paint applied over the clear? We’re they etched into the aluminum?

Basically just trying to figure out how big of a refinish process this would be. I wouldn’t mind doing a full restoration but I don’t want to end up $4k deep into a set of wheels that are only worth $1500 when I’m done.

I'mma need to hop into this vintage wheel game. Where are you guys sourcing these? I know most are coming in from Japan but are you guys hitting up eBay sellers or something?

Will definitely have to refinish those in some way. I'm not sure if the Lodio emblem would make it once resurfaced I think etched as you mentioned. But those are for sure fixable. I have some in similar condition and everything came out after a bit of sanding. They just need to be polished.

Thanks for chiming in. Unfortunately I waffled a bit and then they sold before I could get 'em. Maybe I should just throw caution to the wind and buy the next decent set I find, lol. Seems finding a full set of 5 in a decent spec is pretty tough.

Definitely do not sleep on a set of 5 in good condition. Vintage wheels are gaining traction in off-road, not to mention their popularity with mini trucks and vintage trucks. I'm so glad I pulled the trigger on the set that @savethewheels found for me.

Took about 90 mins but I wet sanded the first wheel tonight since the truck is almost running and will be ready for them. Also, ignore that they are fake 2 piece Bridgestone's from China haha, I paid $98 for them until I find something nicer. (Which is why Im on this forum haha)

600/800/1000/1200 by hand. Ill go up to 2500 and then I have the three stage polishing kit from Zephyr

Truck is home, wheels are on. Next step is to install the Belltech lowering kit I have sitting in the garage to close up that wheel gap. Excuse my Nissan post on a Tacoma forum but, we share bolt pattern and I'm hunting for wheels :)
