    working 9-5 isn't the best schedule to pick up classes at the local CC but i'm going to give it a try. Get the basics learned and trying to pick up a used mig welder to practice with on my own. Couldn't hurt.

    Nothing too spectacular. Here is my mig weld bead when I was making my tubing bender last month. I was using a Miller 350P. Material is 2x2x1/4 wall HREW tubing.

    What kind of soot are you talking about. Have a picture?

    Only thing I can think is the oxidization after welding stainless which needs to be brush or cleaned with a polishing abrasive.
