Let's Talk About EV Conversion

Did you see Tesla's "unbreakable" window test? How accurate are mpg claims these days. There's too many variables to prove all claimed stats. Different climates, driving styles etc. Get back to me after years of successful production.

 

Well that comment was on your hypocritical statement. Also Tesla has been producing EV cars for 10 years and Toyota for 24 years. So battery EV's are here and staying and been proven all over the world. Sorry you don't like it, but it's happening now.

 

I have nothing against EV's. I welcome them, but are there large 4x4 EV's in other Countries? Micro EV's in other Countries don't need to do much but fit in tight spaces and get from a to b on flat ground in short commutes. I know EV cars and crossovers are good to go so long as the infrastructure is there and they will only get better. There just isn't a truck on the market that I would consider or could afford. I'm not buying a $90k Ford to replace my 84 4Runner.

 

Well the Rivian will be $75 k and Cybertruck $70k and under and who knows what other trucks will be introduced. Me, I wouldn't want one until Solid Stated batteries are introduced. Converting a vehicle can be more expensive than just buying one made on a production line.

 

I don't have anything I would consider converting. Maybe my Barracuda but only cause I plan to daily it during the summer and the slant 6 that's in it isn't as fast or has the range to compete with an EV. I could spend $70K fixing up my current vehicles to last me till I'm dead. EV's will be my kids problems.

 

If it were cheap enough I'd convert my Land Cruiser to electric. Just way too much. Close to $70k to do it.

 

If they ever get cheap enough to be $10K crate engines then yes. No reason not to. Let's hope

 

Maybe the motors will be but not the batteries included.

 

Well by 2043 they better be or else they won't sway very many buyers.

I think buying an EV will be cheaper than converting. But who knows what will happen in even the next 10 years.

 

I love the look of that truck but this company is very sketchy as they want pre orders but haven't even shown this thing driving. They have some cool retro cars too, but only computer renders so far. This truck only goes 240 miles on a charge. That's not good.

 

True, but there is a market in converting vehicles so long as it's affordable and user friendly.

 

I've seen some Tacoma's that wish they got that much.

 

Well I get 10 mpg in my LC on a 25 gallon tank.

 

F150 ev has not been tested nor delivered. Rivian has shown a ton of testing on social media, through the rebelle rally, and the long way up challenge

 

Yeah, but you can carry spare fuel. Can't carry spare batteries for an EV. Solar charging isn't a viable option for drive charging either.

 

And the Rivian will be delivered before the F150, but more F150's will be sold over the Rivians. THe Long Way Up was a great eye opener for a lot of EV truck skeptics. And they were prototypes.

 

I liked the tow to charge they had to do. Saved some headache but being towed by a gas engine was ironic.

 

That's why planning is imperative when buying an EV. On a trail ride I'd make it through no problem. But I"d have to charge before and maybe after. But I wouldn't run out of battery during a day of trail riding. I don't daily my Land Cruiser.
