Plus with strong regen and high efficiency while idle, you may actually use less energy than a comparable ICE vehicle.

Definitely so. Might not even need to recharge after a trail run. I always run 1/4 tank on the trails to start. Electricity doesn't weigh anything :p

You actually wouldn't want to start with 100% charge either since then you would have zero regen. I did that on the top of crater lake on a road trip and it was a dicey way down stuck at full charge.

Yeh the Tesla I used to drive I never charged 100% unless on a long road trip.

EV is even worse than this:

    upload_2021-8-26_13-41-38.jpg

It burns coal to heat up the steam that turns gas turbines to run generator, then the electricity is sent over multiple transformers and powerlines to a charging station, where you plug in EV.

And don't tell me you you charge a EV of the solar panels unless you work a graveyard shift.o_O

Actually this is much more environment friendly than EV:

    upload_2021-8-26_13-46-57.jpg

Sun gives its power to trees which take CO2 of the air, extracts carbon to deposit in a tree trunk while giving back O2 to the air. When the steam engine burns a wood it takes O2 from the air made by that tree and combines it with carbon stored in a tree trunk and puts back CO2 while converting the solar energy stored in the wood into power for the engine. The water used to produce a steam is also 100% recycled back to the environment.

Actually bio ethanol (made from corn) and bio diesel (made from canola or soybean) are even better 100% solar energy with full recycling of CO2, as the cycle is much shorter.

We use nothing but battery powered equipment at work. The batteries never last longer than a year or two. Toyota's are known for their million mile engines. Kind of stupid to replace a very reliable engine for a motor/batteries that aren't very reliable and very expensive to maintain and replace, also very expensive to do the swap in the first place.

What does a replacement engine cost for a Tacoma?
What's the purpose of this? To "save" money on gas? Not very smart.

I don't care about EV from an environment stand point. I like the instant torque and speed that come from it. We have bigger problems of gross polluters in our agricultural farms that nobody seems to care about.

Regear and throw in a supercharger. You'll have that torque and you'll spend significantly less.

You could do that and even do a SAS swap and still spend significantly less all while still having a reliable engine/trans.

Tired of this meme. Unless you live in like one of 3 states that still has a large coal profile, you're charging off nuclear, natural gas, hydro, and/or wind. I'm all for criticism of EV snobs and environmental alarmism, but let's be accurate about it.

Sad I missed this thread since I started thinking about a hybrid conversion in 2018 whereby you start with a 4x4, delete your main driveshaft and replace with E-motor(s), sync with the front transfer case and send a new shaft to the back.

It's cost-prohibitive for me, as you're looking around $30k still, but I think it's doable by someone on here. Why go full EV when you have a perfectly good 190HP base to work in tandem? Plus you have the sanctity of mind of having gas backup on a truck, and regen braking from it. For me regen braking is the most awesome part about EVs since that's a huge source of efficiency loss on all vehicles. Red lights are the biggest cause of car (maybe all?) pollution; change my mind.
