So just about every Toyota I have owned over the years seems to have a fair bit of play once I put the truck in park. But lately, I have noticed more than usual. A few times I thought the truck was still in gear. I am an avid parking brake guy...but just to get fuel or run back into the house...not so much. The drive line all seems tight and operating properly.
How much Lurch do you all have?

It depends. Parking pawl position in tranny is the difference, and of course drive line components. It could lurch a lot of just a bit. Mine's variable.

The only time you should feel travel after putting it in park, is if you parked on an incline. Take your foot slowly off the brake after you've put the transmission in park. That'll ease the abrupt lurch.

I try to use the e brake every time I park and experience no lurching when that's the case. If the e brake isn't used, pressing harder on the brake pedal will prevent the lurch.

I probably should exercise my parking brake once in awhile. I hardly never use it. The only time I would consider using it is if I was parked on a steep incline.

i notice it every time i park at home in the garage. i've got 4" to my garage door, and just added a winch that extends another 1"...

but it doesn't roll anymore than any other vehicle, i just notice it due to the tolerances at play
