Very nice! Our tile design will be similar to yours with straight (12") tiles on the bottom with border and diamonds (6") above it and bullnose. We're not going to the ceiling - just to keep costs down. That sink/cabinet is nice!! That's a hellish amount of work!!! But definately worth it in the end!!

I worked for 12 years in the plumbing wholesale industry. I think it has already been mentioned that frameless tub and shower doors are not really frameless- they just have no frame around the glass panels. The tile guys have already given good advice about sealing your grout to reduce staining/mildew. An important consideration is the type of backing board under the tiles. Use water repellent green board drywall or the newest thing seems to be cement board to stop mold growth if any water gets behind the tiles. Regarding whirlpool tubs- Acrylic is the best because if it gets scratched, the color is the same all the way through the material (not white underneath like gelcoat fibreglass). Insulation under the tub is useful so the tub holds its heat for longer. As far as fixtures- chrome is the most durable finish! If you go for a more exotic brass or brushed texture- be sure to never use ammonia based cleaners on it. These finishes are covered with clearcoat and can be damaged by harsh cleaners. Also, it is worth spending a little extra for pressure balanced valves. These valves have max temp control settings and are built to compensate for people flushing toilets etc. in other parts of the house. They also usually have integral stops to allow you to shut off the water to the valve for maintenance. Excellent brand names- Moen,Kohler,Delta,American Standard,Grohe. Also, don't scrimp on your tub waste and overflow assembly- it is hard to get at for maintenance and is a common source of leaks.

I would do this if using unfaced batt insulation but it looks like Kraft faced batt was used. I wouldn't want to risk the chance of trapping moisture between a vapor barrier and the Kraft faced paper.

That's the original insulation that was under the drywall. I have no idea what it is (and have no clue about all that stuff anyway ). We're leaving it there....as is.

That is an outside wall - however, it's aside the attic that's above the garage. So, it's not a main exterior wall.

Some updated picts. The bottom half of the tile is done. The top half (diamond design) will be the hardest. Amazing how the tile makes the tub area look smaller. Perhaps its because of the darker color?.

    Thanks!!

I can't believe that I posted this back in March. Procrastination big time!!

He should be grouting on THursday and then start working on the floor/vanities.

Aside from that...I had a guy come over to do a 'go-over' on our propane furnace. What I thought was just a maintenance call turned out to be a fiasco. Currently the furnace is unusable and the guys been replaceing this part, that part, and it still isn't working right. WTF? Not a good time for all this shit to come together!!
    (sorry, just a vent!).

It's electric. The propane furnace is our supplemental heat. We normally have it set to run the propane furnace when the temp outside is 40degrees or lower. It's been doing a good job keeping the house warm so far (Thank God) - although only a couple days/nights where its been in the 20's.

Just in case anyone is still reading....

I think I'm in love! I was somewhat worried about how everything was gonna look (grout colors/etc). But now after seeing it, I am totally excited and love it!!

Thought I'd make a final post (for the most part). The bathroom is 95% complete with a few minor things left - touchup, hardware, window treatments, blinds, & decorating kinda stuff left.

We have two vanities that are identicle but I didn't take pictures of the other one. The bathroom turned out GREAT!! Cost a little bit more than we expected, but we're happy its finally done. Our installer guy/friend, did a great job!! We'll probably hire him back again when we're ready to re-do the kitchen!

    Here are the old picts:

    Thanks!
I don't have exact details....but I'd venture to say around $10K. Half the cost was in Labor ($35 an hour for our installer).

Obviously, you can do this A LOT cheaper and by doing the work yourself. Considering the circumstances - we wanted this done as soon as we could. You can go inexpensive or rippin expensive. We didn't skimp but we kept it affordable for us (we're not picky but like to have nice things). We learned a lot....should've done this, should've done that.... but now we know.

I'm super happy with it. It's the most 'modern' part of our house right now. Kitchen is next (next couple years). I think we'll do the kitchen completely on our own.

While I've got some of you 'tile' gurus around..... I'm really interested in how to clean or what cautions I need in cleaning this new tile.

Previously, I had the glossy colored ceramic (?) tile you see in every bathroom. It would get coated with soap scum and I'd use soap scum cleaners & a sponge.

This new tile is porcelain with Bostik True Color grout. The tile looks like stone and is not glossy (stone feel). I'm not even sure I'll notice soap scum building up on it.... ?? When I get a chance, I'll try to find manufacturer recommendations. Just thought I'd ask everyone here.

Nice colour combo Janster . Your installer did a good job of wrapping the diamond pattern around the corners .
