Ive been gearing up for a elk hunt in 2016 and ended up with a kifaru highcamp on a duplex frame with a guide lid and grab it. It's definitely a bit heavier then other standard hiking packs and Im sure other "hunting" packs but it is very comfortable and seems to be built like a tank. Ive never had to pack an animal out on my back but i think id rather a heavier pack that packs a heay load comfortably then a lighter pack that will tear you apart. I took this out with me to CO earlier this year for a scouting trip and while not loaded down with excessive pack out weight rode really well. I also really like the modularity of this pack system. You can really add/subtract/move/adjust everything to suit your particular needs at that moment. It was more money then i really wanted to spend but am very happy with my choice in the end.

I screwed up my pack budget. No new pack for me. I wanted a pack w the meat shelf in between bag and frame. Putting meat in the kifaru has me pondering the logic.

Yea, but it is a weird retrofit. Way lots of straps to unhook. Not to mention pulling the frame out of those pockets at the top. My bikini frame lets loads bulge thru.

Not that Ive handled the other bags but Im assuming there is a bit of finagling with them as well but do see the the bulging through with the bikini frame possibly being an issue....could grab the hanging meat bag, waterproof it and toss into the main bag

I've had my MR 6500 since 2010 and love everything about it... except the dry weight.

Kifaru makes a hell of a pack, a bit lighter too.

Check out an eberlestock Mainframe...you can put a pack on it and if you get a kill, take the pack off, strap the animal or quartered animal depending on size and what you can handle to the frame and a buddy can take the pack portion back out of the field.

Not me but gives you the idea...

My Kifaru is heavy, bet hell for stout. It has carried out many an animal. It would not be my choice for a pack in sheep hunt, but for most everything else it works well. I don't mind treating it rough cause I know it can take it.
