Let's Talk Sliders - Weld vs. No Weld

A couple questions on the subject.

    1. Who makes a weld on slider for a 2016 access cab? I could have sworn I saw a post from one of the vendors saying to use their previous model weld on sliders and they work (or it could have been just for pricing). But I can't find that post.

    2. The main reason I'm looking at weld on (besides being cheaper) is weight. Once I've added both bumpers, sliders, my bed rack, my RTT, that's a lot of weight. So I am trying to keep that down. Does anyone know what kind of savings you end by not doing bolt on? I suppose if it's less than 50 pounds the ease of bolt on might start to look better. I guess there's also the strength aspect, but once one properly attaches the bolt on ones, they seem to be just as strong.

For my truck, I'm looking for the kick out and fill plates. Also up as high as possible.

Don't worry about the added weight. Its below the center of gravity from all the weight you added above it. It will help you more than hurt you. With bolt on sliders you will have less issues with warranty problems should there be problems later down the road. Welding on high strength steel frames is a big no, no.
Getting what you want is not a big issue but it depends on where you live and how much you have to pay for shipping.

I used Avid for my bolt on sliders with kick-outs and no filler plates on my 2016 Access cab.

Relentless Fab, All Pro, Mobtown Offroad all should have 2016 sliders.

While you're researching I highly recommend knowing the differences between HREW and DOM.

Also, from most opinions on here, if you plan on slamming on those sliders, then weld-on is the only way to go.

Keep in mind I don't own sliders so I'm just going off the majority of opinions that I've seen on here. Hope this helps.

I really like the look of mobtown offroads bolt on sliders, they look great, have kick outs and fill plates, make them for the access cab, and are strong. When I get the coin, these will be the first major mod I do. I think @Aussiek2000 has these exact sliders on his AC and they look great.

I think Mobtown is running a 20-25% discount until the end of the month.

I'm not necessarily worried about up high weight, it's just the total weight I'm adding. Between the sliders. bumpers, winch, rack, tent, gear, suspension, I'll probably be nearing 800-900 extra pounds. So anything I can do to reduce that will help (weld on sliders, aluminum bumper, etc).

See these are all bolt on from what I can find. Looking at all of those brands, the bolt on bracketing system seems like it would add a lot of weight. I plan on using them. Last time I was Moab I had some pretty close calls where those sliders would have been handy any closer.

I know the differences as well. My last 4x4 was a 1 ton Jeep with 39's. Cage, sliders, bumpers, etc. Many things made from tubing. A lot of the stuff I made/had made with HREW that didn't need a lot of strength and DOM where I needed that l extra strength.

It probably was 4xinnovations. I reached out to them to see if their weld ons would fit the 3rd gens and they did.

    http://www.4xinnovations.com/2005--2016-Access-Cab-Tacoma-Rock-Slider_p_73.html

I have a set of their weld on sliders for my quad cab with a kick out but no fill plate.
Since they're weld on you can angle them as high as you want. I set mine to have about 14 degrees incline. Mine are welded together and painted up now, just haven't finished installing them.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Bolt on for the win. Easily removed for repairs, trade in etc., and just as strong

This is the only thing I'd see myself getting sliders for. No heavy off roading here.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Unless it's "true no drill" bolt on, drilling the frame instantly voids your warranty. Welding and cutting off/repainting welds is a lot easier to cover up than added holes are.

They don't have any pictures of the actual mounting face of the sliders, I'd never touch them.

They usually use holes made for factory side steps and maybe a few other random ones that are there from the factory.
