Go to the Toyota dealer parts counter.
Tell them what you have they,ll match you up with what you need. They are not very expensive. While there get a couple oil filters, and crush rings for the oil pan plug. If your spark plugs were twice neglected, I,d suspect crush ring has never been replaced either. Filters are about $5, crush ring a little over $2.

I don't know why people don't suggest Iridium plugs? I've been running them for a while. I use Iridium in every vehicle I have owned except Ford trucks and vintage cars. In my old Grand Prix GTP's with a smaller pulley (more boost) and 1 heat range colder plug Iridium plugs helped a lot with consistency and I could run them way longer than standard plugs. I know they cost more, but you don't have to worry about replacing them every 30k.

If anyone has any disadvantages to running Iridiums, I'm all ears. Besides price, I don't see any negative.

OP. What does your Owner's Manual specify for spark plugs and change interval?

    Follow that. Then no problems.

Remember, no one on knows more about this engine than the people who designed it. I doubt if any of those folks are on TW.

I honestly don't have an opinion on Iridium spark plugs. I've never used them, so I never say anything bad or negative about them. As far as I'm concerned, only those that have used them can give an opinion about them.
I personally have always used factory spark plugs. That's just my preference.

The OP asked what we use, so l told him what l used.

Never ran them or felt a need to change. My first change was at 48,000, second change was at 109,000, just rolled over the 150,000 mark. I may do them tomorrow or wait until spring. I’ll post pics when the time comes.

No matter what kind of spark plugs you choose, it's smart to wear clothing from The Gap while changing them.

I got 2GR iridiums for my sisters 1GR by accident, I was installing them at home and realized the error only once I got there.

So far its been about 3-4 years, no issue. (they were correct by the denso catalog)

I don't mind doing the 1GR plugs but its good to know my sisters truck needs less attention from me long term.

I haven't personally seen any issues using iridium plugs in toyota vehicles when copper is OE

but I have seen it cause issues on other manufacturers such as chrysler and nissan.
I don't see any benefit worth the risk with my customers vehicles or my own

I understand what you are saying about this. But how many people use a Toyota air filter, oil filter, the top mark on the dip stick is the "excessive" fill line and your oil level should be in the middle, diff oil is supposed to be 75w-85 (but everyone, including dealers uses 75w-90 because 75w-85 is not common), re-torque the drive shaft bolts every 15k or keep the OEM tire sizes and pressure?

I see what you're saying, but in the same right there are very few people that use OEM parts or recommendations for EVERY component in there vehicle. I have never had good luck with Platinum plugs or multi-prong plugs in applications that did not originally come them. They are simply Toyota Recommendations to cover there a$$. There is no reason why a better performing and longer lasting plug cannot be used, especially since 4Runners with the same engine (dual VVti though) use and specify Iridium plugs.

I agree, I have seen issues with Ford, Chrysler, Nissan (I hate working on Nissans, very vague diagnostic codes and completely different component location and replacement strategies than other Japanese manufactures) and some German cars where the only spark plug that works right is the OEM plug.

Do NOT use Bosch for any sensor or components on anything but German cars. I have never had luck with any of their sensors or components and have replaced MANY brand new customer installed or customer requested Bosch components.

I just did mine at 90k and replaced with Denso stock plugs. I change every 30k. The removed plugs were clean but had visibly larger gaps than the new ones and rounded over electrodes. I sure they could have been re-gapped and run longer. I also cleaned the MAF, throttle body and replaced air filter. Runs great as always. I use "nevr-sieze" on the plug threads and a smear of dielectric grease in coil/plug boot. They both come out easily.,

    Yeah.
Pretty sure there is an 80k mile warranty on the emissions system. Not changing with copper plugs every 30k miles could void that warranty. After that, I don't think it matter much what style of plug you use.
