Relatively new team, thanks in advance. I’m throwing bilstein 5100 and OME 885 springs on my 21 TRD OR AC and I DON’T want to touch the rear. All the threads I’ve seen utilize AAL or block in the rear. I’m want level with the factory rear on factory rear shocks, and I don’t want to harsh any of the factory geometry. I read 5100 w/885 settles to 1.5in up front, which is the exact difference front to rear, hub to fender flare. I been scouring the threads on the level with Billy 5100 and OME 885 and can’t find my answer, sorry for redundancy.

    cheers,
    E

I don't see anything that ends in a question mark. What is your question?

I think he wants to know if the suggested additions would really level the truck.

Yessir, sorry for the ambiguity. Can I level my truck with 5100’s and OME 885’s up front only and stocker shocks on the rear, w/o harshing my geo? I’m 1.5in higher in rear, hub to bottom fender flare.

I have never attempted myself, but I think a google search will find many threads on the subject. In the end, you’ll only know for sure after you install it.

If you used your stock coil springs like Bilstein suggests, you would have the option to adjust the preload to get the ride height you desire.

I have adjusted the preload on my kings twice. The adjustability is one the reasons I bought them.

What does “harshing my geo” mean?

“Ruining my suspension geometry”. I thought preloading shocks was unideal if avoidable? Getting taller springs achieves the same without affecting the intended action of the shock. Am I wrong? I very well could be, please educate. Thanks in advance.

Preload is normal and fine if kept within the limits of your shock and coil spring.

Beautiful! Top notch, as always. I just threw on some 265/75/16 GY ultraTERRAINs on the stock OR wheels as well, they really wake the truck up. I’m trying to decide if the level is even still needed. Ugh. Decisions decisions. Happy holidays, gang.

I have an 2020 OR in the same color. I didn’t choose the color though. It was the only 6MT OR on the lot. The dealer was happy to see me. I think they figured they’d have that 6mt for years. Some guy ordered it and didn’t buy it or something like that I was told. My lucky day!

Why do you want to only improve part of the suspension? Im not being tongue and cheek, the best outcome of new suspension is better cornering. That is accomplished with a matched performance vector on all four points.

For a sports car perhaps. In this case I think the goal is aesthetics to make the truck look more like an classic square body pickup or something like that. I don’t get the leveling thing.

Do you use your truck as a truck?

If so, there’s a reason for the rake.

If you just want it to look pretty when parked than go ahead and level it out. But any time you accelerate, brake, have a load in the back…not going to be level.

Thanks for all your input guys. I use my f250 diesel for all the man stuff, ha. The yota is for HS nostalgia and awesomeness. But it will only see occasional DIY hauling and Tahoe trips. I regret selling my HS pickup but I kept my HS 4Runner. Love these yotas!

Why you replacing the springs? Bilstein recommends you keep the OEM springs.

I agree with the sports car reference. Although I managed to improve cornering characteristics such that I can wind s curves at speed and take 90s at 2 or 3 x without rebounding. That was my design intention with using digressive shocks, 2.185” dead weight front and a proportionate rake. Op, I agree with your pause on this decision for a while to digest your new shoes. Find someone who used a disappointing lift and drive their rig as comparison to stock if you can.

X2 Just use the stock springs and set the billys at the 2nd or 3rd notch and call it a day.

Just ordered the 5100’s only. And will probably set them on the 3rd ring (1.1in it looks like), like you guys have suggested as my rear is 1.5in taller. Thanks for all your time and effort, gang. It makes navigating these relatively pricey automotive decisions easier and more succinct for the less experienced. Now I’m wondering where the trend of adding aftermarket springs to the 5100 setup even originated? This thread has clearly shown that while they might work, it was not the manufacturers intention or design and in fact it will even void warranties? That’s new math to me…

this is the exact way I came upon my AC sled that has the premium package but w/o all the silly fluff options that are either unneeded or can be added ourselves for a 1/4 of the price. Unicorns my friend.
