Alright so gotta ask again since a lot of you are running 33's. How are you fitting a spare under your bed? Any help will be greatly appreciated since I can get rid of my expensive / heavy swing out bumper and put the money towards more important things. Let me know. Thank you. :boink:

I've seen it done without getting a good view though. I'm thinking of bending out the brackets a little to help guide the tire into the right spot. I had one of my wheels up there on the cable checking things out. It seems like a tight fit so I'm looking to see if anyone has come up with any good ideas for placing the tire / routing the exhaust without getting too close to the tire. Dumping the exhaust before the axle out of the fender would be great - I'm going to ask another member who had a truck like that how he did it since he was local and will probably be able to help me figure out how to make it happen even if it's referring me to the guy that did it for him. Looks straightforward enough with the right tools and knowhow. :)

After that it's figuring out how to hold a heavy tire up while going over rough terrain. The cable is strong, but I don't like the idea of it holding a big heavy wheel / tire combo alone so I'm thinking of ways to hold it on top having the cable. Climbing rope to water heater strap are a couple ideas I've had.

Well good luck on that. To me it wasn't worth the headache, for the size I'd rather it not dangle underneath the truck and rather have it on a stable bumper.

10-4 just asking around. The bumper that came with the truck is a little beyond what I need. Maybe I'll keep it if I can't find a good alternative or look to trade for a swingout that is a little less over the top. I appreciate the words of reason. I'm usually that guy talking to other people. We'll see how it goes!

How much of a performance drop do you see with 33" tires? How much of a mileage drop? I have a 96 with 3.4 L V6 and I'm currently getting about 20mpg with 31" tires.

I average around 17-18 no matter what. 19-21 on long freeway trips. I also have the 3.4.

I cut the curved portion of the brackets off and it fit. However one set back to having a lifted truck I had not considered is that it is very easy to steal the spare and thus, mine was stolen. So at the moment I don't have one ...(pieces of$@:!7) I learned my lesson.

Are you an auto? I have a manual and mostly drive like a grandma and keep it under 2k RPMs.

Yeah I was thinking about security too. Maybe a few long bolts through the bed that you can use with security lug nuts and can't unscrew from the top also. My mind is full of ideas for this lol. Just get some long bolts like this with some washers and some security lug nuts - clean lol. Just put some regular nuts under the bed to hold them in place when you torque the lug nuts on. You could tighten the regular nuts down by holding them with some vice grips so the bolt is sandwiched to the bed with the washer and bolt head on top and the nut and another washer directly under the bed and finally the wheel and lug nuts at the ends. :)

Not to turn this into a other mileage debate but...
    Lemme guess where, Cali?
Ha. Besides, especially with bigger tires, it's a good idea to get up to speed as quickly as possible. The longer you keep it in a lower gear, the more gas you'll be using in the long run. I don't gun it, but I do try to get up to speed and in final gear asap. 3500 is still fairly high tho. 2500 for me is usually all it takes to gitrdone. 3500 seems about right for the type of driving in cali, at least from what I hear. If you're not going as the opposite light is turning red, you're getting beeped at. Ha. But I do sometimes push it to 3500 once in a blue moon if I have to make a quick entrance. I drive fairly easy. But not like an old fart either. I've accepted the somewhat decreased mileage over stock. I drive a lifted, aging, and severely non-aerodynamic truck. It is what it is. Not much is gonna fix the mileage. Especially when going with big tires. Even driving like a grandma isn't even worth the little extra saved.

I love the blue tacomas. Such a rare color to see though. That and purple.
