First post here. Just a quick question.
I want to install a leveling kit on my ‘17 Tacoma SR5 4x4 DCSB. I would also like to put KO2’s on my stock rims. I have the standard 16 x 9 rims.

First off, where should I get said leveling kit? What kind of kit should I get? I’ve heard spacer lifts are not ideal off-road. I’m not doing serious off-roading, but I will be on some camping trails. I’ve heard about Bilstein 5100’s, but I don’t know a thing about them.

Secondly, are KO2’s okay to go on the stock rim? What size can I get? My current tire size is 245/75r16.

I really like the stock look, and would like to maintain it as much as possible. Thank you for any advice you can provide!

Stock rims are 16x7 and 265/75/16 will fit with no issues.

The Bilstein 5100’s are a very reputable kit. They’re adjustable as well and very well priced. That’s the only kit I’m looking into for my 3rd gen

If you're not going to be jumping your truck or racing it off road, just go to Les Schwab and get a simple leveling kit, it's a 3-inch kit and it's very cost-effective. It does include a small puck in the front and an add a leaf in the back but that's all you need. Don't let the Tacoma World tough guys with their infinite knowledge sway you in a more expensive Direction. They've been doing these lifts for years and they're fine. It's just a 3-inch leveling left. I've done some pretty crazy stuff since I've installed mine and it's been flawless.

Sounds like a plan. I’m not trying to spend thousands right now.

I put a ReadyLift 3/2 with stock everything else. Doesn't look bad, installed myself and cost $270...

think you can go 5100's set at 0.85 with stock coils. I believe this will get you level and you can go +1 on the tires. It wont be 1000's. Falcon Wildpeaks are quite nice and much cheaper than KO2's. Tire ~650.00 for the set, and the 5100's gotta be less than 250.00ish.

You don't need a lift kit! Put your KO2's on and measure the didtance from the top of the tire to the fender. You will find that the back is right about one inch higher than the front. Get your 5100's and put the fronts in the first notch. Done.

Probably! I just wanted to make sure we shut down the "you gotta do a 3 inch lift " guys.

Also, you want to take into account anything cutting or drilling will void your warranty (even if the stealership installs it). That's why I didn't go with a full suspension lift.

I see the "hockey puck" thing around here a lot, pretty sure the NHL never sanctioned anodized aluminum hockey pucks.

Rubber coil spacers like the old Daystar brand aren't even sold by any of the offroad shops linked here, or most anywhere else these days.

Seems like it would be better to direct people away from the metal spacers offering more than an inch or so of lift up front.

Those taller 3" plus spacers could actually cause a ton of problems unlike the smaller 1" metal spacers that are sold by Headstrong, Toytec and several other vendors people suggest right after they discourage "hockey pucks".
