It's not a Buckhorn, but it is similar. It's trash lol.

    It's about 20" off at 100 yards.

I'll get an EGW 20 MOA scope rail for it and mount a quality (came with a crappy Chinese Tasco) scope and zero it. I'll probably get a Primary Arms LPVO or experiment with my Burris 1-4x24.

My 336 has Skinners and my 1895 has the XS. I like the big white stripe on the XS, it has a beautiful picture through the ghost ring sight.

I've considered getting skinner sights, but with that cheap scope this gun was about 1-2 MOA with Remington ammo.

I can hit Copenhagen cans at a hundred yards with ghost ring sights.

Okay gang. Here's a lever gun thread.

I know lever guns are very popular and this thread is too keep other firearms threads from being to cluttered.

Don't forget to keep the site Terms of Service in mind while posting. Potential legislation or political discussions are VERBOTEN, in other words don't discuss it. Current laws, including hunting or firearm related are okay.

    Have fun and enjoy!

I figured this would be better and it is more ambiguous so it allows more open discussion.

If @JimBeam would move our posts from the AR thread, this would be a great start!

To start, I have a Marlin 30AW I reciever in trade. I love this gun, but honestly it's a budget gun from Marlin's worst period of production.

I don't have any pictures of its performance (2021 ammo availability and prices), but before and during my ownership it's been a 1-2 MOA gun and 100% functional. The rest sight does like to fall apart, though.
    20210122_142955.jpg

When I got it it was equipped with unknown sling mounts and a Walmart camo sling. It also had some see-through scope mounts and a Tasco 3-9x40 scope. The scope mounts were barely on with 2 screws loose, 1 tight and the 4th being broken off in the reciever.
    20201108_194341.jpg 20201108_195122.jpg

I dropped it off at my local gunsmith and he removed the broken screw. I took it out for a range trip and the iron sights were off (on windage) by 20". It has really bad rear sights.

Anyways, that's my lever gun. I'm currently waiting to get some quality scope and sight upgrades.

I've shot a bunch and my favorites are .45-70, .30-30 and .38 SPC.

1976 Marlin 336 30-30. I kept the old Wideview mount on it and put on an older Leupold VX-2 that I bought from a friend.

That's the same scope mount mine had. I was not a fan and it was either poorly installed at the factory or a previous owner messed it up.

I'm interested in some fancy iron sights, though.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Marlin's factory Buckhorns.

Wideview's are an older product but my setup has been solid. They are not in business anymore though you can find them on ebay. Mine has straight head screws and I re-torqued them all with blue loctite and it's been good. I figured I'd keep it classic with the old hardware and if needed I'm sure there are newer see-through scope mounts if needed.

I'm more partial to a good iron sight 30-30

I like the options. I think another is the Skinner sights. I might go that way. Not sure, honestly.
