If they were to rebadge the hi-lux and bring it over here, they would probably sell to two groups:

1. Folks that want a hi-lux
2. Folks that want a luxury pickup

If it comes with AC seats and it's a hi-lux, I'd probably want one.

 

The predator grill won' matter once you cut the front end up for a bull bar bumper.

Hi-lux is luxury?

 

It’s name was originally an abbreviation of “high luxury”, so I guess it must be. Like riding on a cotton-candy cloud they say.

 

Hi-Lux = high luxury.

 

I would think of the Hilux being Utilitarian, probably would not adapt well to a luxury Lexus.

 

The GX being a Prado and the LX being a Land Cruiser don't seem to hurt them. Toyota puts soft suspension on rigid chassis which makes the OME you put on later that much better.

 

You'd be surprised how utilitarian the Prado is. Many are Diesel engine, manual transmission. I got to see one up close in Italy and it was bare bones compared to my GX. Lexus does a great deal of redesigning, lots of high end finishes, and gobs of sound deadening to come up with the GX.

I have driven them.... never saw anything luxurious about them. But what do i know....

 

I saw nothing special with a hilux..... nothing luxurious at all

 

When Toyota came up with the name in 1968 it was high luxury compared to competing pickup trucks. It had independent front suspension, 4 speed transmission and optional bucket seats if you got the floor shifter instead of the column shift.
