Has anyone swapped in a Lexus steering wheel? Looks relatively straight forward...

    I used a 97 Rav4 steering wheel while others have used a Lexus IS300.

I am wondering about the airbag compatibility? I also heard is dangerous AF to pull out the airbag out of the housing to swap...

The Tacoma uses the older style airbag squib. I know for sure you can swap the IS300 steering wheel, the first gen Tundra, and the 2nd Gen Tacoma steering wheel (IF you use a 1st Gen Sequoia Airbag)

I was looking at using a wheel out of an LS460 because it has the same wheel frame as the 1st gen Taco. For now all I care is I can swap in the airbag and the directional gear turns of the flashers. The accessory controls are a secondary concern for the time being.

The airbag is the issue here. Most of these Lexuses will have the modern two stage airbag squib. Not many will have the correct single stage squib the Tacoma has.

Can the bag be changed out of the horn button assembly?

You can swap the squibs but I absolutely do not recommend this. It’s dangerous and not worth it.
