So I bought my truck back in April and paid for extended warranty that per the salesman, any aftermarket lift would be covered under warranty. I had a Toytec BOSS 2.0 coilover kit with rear block and Toytec rear shocks installed by a local off road company in July. Anyhow, I take the truck in today for a scheduled 5k mile service and also tell them to please fix the squeaking leaf spring issue. They immediately blame it on the lift kit saying due to the lift, the leaf spring is coming down under stress and rubbing on metal, and a rubber bushing should’ve been installed with the lift. I find it funny that they say this knowing Tacoma’s have had a long running issue with squeaky leafs, and I had a 2006 making this EXACT noise. I find it hard to believe that the squeaking/creaking noise I’m hearing is related to a metal on metal rubbing from lack of a bushing… any insight from anyone on this?

A sales guy lied to you? This is shocking and unprecedented news! On the other hand, did you seriously believe that the extended warranty would cover an aftermarket lift installed by a 3rd party?

FWIW, I've never seen any warranty, extended or otherwise, cover aftermarket installations unless the dealer installed it at delivery. It would have been easy to verify by reading your warranty contract, especially the "what's not covered" sections. If you bought the truck 4 months ago cancel the warranty and get as much of your money back as you can. And never, ever, take a car salesperson's word for anything unless its backed up by something in writing.

There’s a sucker born every minute.

I worked in dealerships for 10 years. My favorite quote from sales. “it’s not about the deal you got, it’s about the deal you think you got.”

I’m past the dude lying to me, I know there’s nothing I can do about that. I’m more worried being convinced that this lift caused a squeaky leaf issue when Toyota knows good and damn well they’ve had a long running issue with this exact problem. Does anyone have experience with the leaf bushings? They’re saying due to the lift I need a rubber bushing installed which the off road shop should’ve done..

    You got suckered, shipmate.

Dealership covering your after market lift under warranty. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

I’m literally at the dealership now, waiting to get my truck back. I’m gonna have the service tech show me what he’s talking about and then depending on what he shows me that’s my next step.

I’m betting the off-road shop will laugh. The block isn’t causing your squeaky springs.

A nice thorough oil undercoat job should take that squeak away..

While that may very well be the case, the fact that you modified the suspension gives them an out to refuse any suspension related warranty claim for the duration of the warranty. All they have to do is say nope, the mod is causing the issue, and your only alternative would be legal action, which would likely cost you more than any repair. If you have an unrelated failure you'll be fine, but you're probably on your own for suspension issues.

Yea not a chance a dealer is going to warranty something they did not install.

Some lube on the pads will do the trick. I prefer motorcycle chain lube, works good for like 6months or so at a time.

im glad someone up here has useful information to provide and understands my frustration. All these idiots posting useless comments about how I got played, not helpful at all. My whole point is here… it doesn’t make sense how theyre saying the lift is causing the squeak. Thanks for the video.

pretty much this. I just had to replace the throttle body and I have an after market CAI. Lucky for me, they didn't communicate that to the service manager and it was replaced under warranty. whew!!!
