My buddy recently acquired this Taco project with a clutch and AC issues. The owner didn't bother to get it fixed after the high price quote from the local shops. It also some squeaking noise so we'll check that out after the installation of the new set of tires from 4Wheelonline. Might try the cheap fix first and see.

have a '93 toy pickup R12 system. 169,000 miles and still going strong. Just added 1/4 of a can top off of R12 refrigerant a couple times over the years. Secret to long life is to run system 5 minutes a couple times a month during the winter. keep system fully charged. And after a period of non-use, only start system when engine is at idling speed.

51k miles on my 2015. A clattering noise from the compressor/belt tensioner, especially shifting from P to D with the air conditioning on. New Denso compressor and new belt tensioner going in... $$$, and not the life I usually expect from my Toyotas and Tacomas.

The compressor is engaged any time you have the windshield defrost setting On. Going out of your way to run the A/C is just wasted time/effort, though if it helps you sleep better at night then have at it.

    I had a '93 Toyota pickup too; 22RE, 5spd, with A/C...it was a good truck.

I felt the same way when my power steering rack blew out at 60k miles. Gotta remember for these parts theyre made by third parties usually, and stuff happens. Bad run of parts, factory issues, etc. I like my tacoma but its not perfect, no vehicles are.

Just learned via a Scotty Kilmer vid that the same transfer case in the Tundra is in the new fords and dodges as well. Go figure.

I got an 06 coming up on 350,000. The only issue I've had with the AC was the expansion valve.

My bench seat is made in Mexico out of straws and piano wire. Sometimes I think it would be better to have an American truck (weight I do), but then would they go to 350,000 freek'n miles.

No, I'm in the center of the country. The AC might go three months without being used (or rarely used) but the rest of the year it runs regularly.

My current 2003 Gen 1 has about 180k miles on its original AC system, and the 2001 Gen 1 before that had almost 140k miles when I sold it. So I'm probably due for a luck-of-the-draw failure.

Yea its gotta be AC was never really used as its cold as hell here, except 2 months out of the year.
Might have to go with out it don't feel like doing the job, maybe clutch but still will cost a lot.
It seems like all the people who were using their ac regularly have theirs still working.
