I have an OME lift with the Dakar rear springs. It was installed at around 40K miles and my truck now has 178K miles.

I recently bought a new camper that has a hitch weight of about 350lbs. I'm running a WD hitch and I know it's set up correctly, I still get a fair amount of rear end "reverberation", if you will (not sure if that's the right term or not). Basically, when you hit a dip in the road, it takes a while for the shocks to bring the rear back under control.

Is it possible that the shocks are past their useful life expectancy? I'm asking for opinions because I'd hate to spend the $$ on a new set, only to find that the shocks weren't the problem. If it's just something that is to be expected with a 4K pound camper, I'm fine with that too. It's not unbearable or unsafe - just noticeable.

    Thanks!

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Hitch weight of 350 isn't bad. I'd say that you're well overdue for shocks. In general, any brand of shocks I've had over 100k miles on were worn out noticeably.

    I have OME/Dakar rear.
Recently hauled ~800lb of gravel in bed with another 800lb on trailer (very low tongue weight though). Rear didn't bounce around too much. My shocks have 50k miles on them and still do well.

Your OME shocks have enjoyed a long life. Put them to rest and get some new ones. You'll probably notice a HUGE difference in how the suspension feels.

I'm thinking about getting a full OME suspension soon, so it's nice to know they can last a long time. :)

Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll start looking at shocks.

Is there something that's a slight step up from the OME Nitro Chargers, but not all the way to the $250/ea range?

Magnaflow, Fox RR/ Camburg UCA up front, Bilsten 5100 and some kind of AAL/ leaf pack in the back?, Light bar w/ Hella, and an air freshener
Fox 2.0 smooth bodies are around $350/ pair I think, just make sure you get the right length for your lift

Longest ive ever run any shocks or struts was around 75k miles.. they were toast.

I typically replaced every 2 years after that cause of leaking or lack of compression anymore.

I only buy re build able and re valve able shocks and coil overs now.

The warranty is 3yrs or 60,000km so i would say they are toast. billys are lifetime!
