My 2006 Tacoma with just over 51,000 miles just passed the 12 year mark with the original exhaust. How long are everyones exhaust lasting and when will my exhaust finally give up the ghost?

Wow 2006 with only 51K, thats nice. My muffler rusted out at about 160k, it was from the Chicago area. Got about a 1 inch hole on the back side of it between the 2 hangers above the pipe so I couldn't even put a decent patch on it because of its location. Plugged it with quick steel a few times but it would blow out every few months so I just put a walker replacement on it about a month ago.

    A long time.

Climate matters. If salt country, it may still outlast the frame. :D

My '04 Highlander with 130k still is all nice and clean and quiet, yet it has lots of city short trips.

2013 in the rust belt. Exhaust started rotting from the inside out. Just replaced it in November with a stainless flowmaster Delta 50 series.

I installed the TRD stainless exhaust when my truck was new in 2010. I expect the cats and headers to rust out before the rest of the exhaust.

Is there an all stainless version from the headers all the way back?

I know I'd miss the kidney that I'd have to sell to afford it, but it sure would be nice not to ever have to worry about it again.

URD headers. @Roostfactor makes the best y pipe. Its stainless steel too. Then just get ss cat, ss resonator and a ss muffler. Warning! This setup is not cheap...

The same shit everyone else has.
1000% dependent on climate and location. If you live in the desert, it’ll probably last forever. If you live in Pittsburgh, where it’s always wet and they cover everything in salt all the time, it’ll probably last a half dozen years.

Just live just like everything else, if you take care of it, it’ll last much longer. I make it a point to hose off the under side of my truck weekly in the winter when they salt the roads and at least once a month in the summer when there’s no salt.

My ‘05 TRD Sport exhaust system was stainless from the factory and i only ever had to replace a couple of bolts and a gasket in 13 years and 532,000 km in Ontario, Canada. The frame committed suicide though. I do not know what other trim levels had different exhaust materials.

I’m in the Philadelphia area, 08 Tacoma with 300xxx miles and original exhaust. I did replace the exhaust gaskets 2-3 years back.

I've got 148,000 on my 2008. I failed maine state inspection because the guy looked at it and said no back pressure. Last I checked, exhaust issues typically throw engine codes, which I don't have. And also, peeking your head near my tire shouldn't show back pressure, right? I just don't want to replace it haha

Where did he stick his head? At the end of the exhaust at the back? Id imagine youd be able to hear if you had an exhaust leak

He stuck his head in by the wheel to look at the muffler. I think he's just making shit up. There's no leak

Climate and driving habits will be the biggest factor in the life of the exhaust system. Everything needs to be fully warmed up for a decent period to rid moisture/humidity and condensation.
Living in northern CA, my entire undercarriage (including exhaust) looks great. Has light surface rust on most items but overall excellent for a 2006 model with 150k miles.

    It outlasted mine.

I replaced mine on a '05 when it was 11-12 years old with 70-75k miles, and probably could have got another 2-3 years out of it. I ended up going with a TRD cat back.
