I look forward to the time when a manufacturer ( any manufacturer ) offers lifetime warranty on any item from headlights to taillights as part of the standard purchase price. You know you'd be getting a well built car/truck.

But I bet in the fine print it says that they can repair with a non OEM or remanufactured part!

Not that I can see from reading the contract. It specifies that "non factory authorized parts" are a reason to deny a claim, but that's it. Bottom line is I didn't buy this warranty separately, so I have no expectations and it didn't play a part in the decision to buy the truck. If it pays for a repair after the 5/60 powertrain warranty expires then I'll be pleasantly surprised. If not I'm no worse off than if it hadn't come with the truck.

A lot of the dealers in my area have lifetime warranties, but there are a ton of stipulations. Maintenance has to be done a by certified mechanic, no doing your own oil changes. Truck has to stay pretty much stock and you have to have ALL recommended services done when they are due. After reading the fine print, it seems that they can still deny warranty for pretty much any excuse they can come up with. So I don't put much stock in them.

That's pretty much true across the board even with the factory 3/36 bumper-to-bumper, especially with all the mods and tunes people do to new trucks under warranty.

True. Plenty of people on here have had warranty work denied because of mods and such. But if you've done all your oil changes yourself and you bring in your stock vehicle for warranty work on the transmission, chances are it won't be a huge issue. Whereas those lifetime warranties could say you've voided the contract because you didn't have a certified mechanic do all of your maintenance. I have family members who've tried to use extended warranties that they've paid for and got denied for minor claims. I guess the good thing with all of my Toyotas has been that I've very rarely had to take them in for warranty work. Hopefully it stays that way.

Most of these aren't transferable from what I understand. And given that average length of time a new truck owners keeps their truck is around 5 years from what I've read in USA, these warranties really do work in their favor on average. They get you to come do all services with them and then in most cases you get rid of truck by time factory powertrain warranty ends anyways haha.

Some in this thread are mixing up extra cost paid for extended warranty contracts backed by Toyota or another third party with free dealership warranty promises backed by just that dealership (or a group of dealerships owned by the same entity).

    They are not the same.

^^This. The powertrain warranty my dealer throws in is from Fidelity Warranty Services. Not issued by the dealer.

My new truck came with a lifetime powertrain warranty from the dealership that covers:

    - All internal lubricated parts of the engine.
    - All internal lubricated parts of the transmission.
    - All internal lubricated drive axle components (axles, CV joints, bearings, 4WD actuator, but no diff).

My only responsibilities are to perform maintenance per Toyota's schedule, and to maintain records and receipts of any maintenance performed outside the dealership. There are no requirements on where the maintenance needs to be done, nor any mention of a "perform within certain mileage" requirement.

I would presume they would deny any drive axle warranty work on things like CV joints and bearings if I performed any sort of lift, which I think is entirely reasonable.
