The website said they aren't recommended for headlight use so I imagine they may not project as much as a normal bulb.

I've seen those as well, looks like a running light or something. Nowhere near the output that is needed for headlight usage. And it looks like it's always on high beam, meaning there is no up/down orientation of the LEDs.

Ehhh...Unless a company deconstructed the reflectors of a generic H4 headlight, custom made an LED bulb to utilize every reflector, and sold it at a reasonable price is farfetched. Good LEDs are expensive as it is.

Ya there is no hi/lo on them. I do believe the three pegs where the harness plugs into on the back of the bulb is a hi/lo/ground but I imagine with these bulbs that the hi/lo are connected in the bulb which would illuminate all the diodes.
I am not sure what the output required for a headlight is, but like I mentioned, if these were designed to use a ballast for the required output like you said, they would probably function closer to a halogen pattern. Rather than the one on top and one on bottom like the Lifetimes and other CREE setups.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that NO matter what bulb you put inside a factory reflective type bowl, it isn't designed specifically for a reflective housing. You'd have to look at the bowl and H4 halogen bulb to really see what I'm saying. Inside the bulb there are 2 filaments, 1 is for the high beam and is exposed to the whole housing. The other one is covered by a high temp piece of steel or some other metal that limits the light going in to the reflector, causing a nice cutoff for the low beam.

I understand what you are saying. I was just saying you could come close to mimicing a halogen bulb with an LED one if desgined to do so. A LED designed housing like those made by TruckLite would be legit for Tacos.

I don't like those so much as the Daymakers from Harley. Those things are nice. Spoke to a guy who had two on his bike and they are awesome. Now...just to make affordable ones for all makes of vehicles. I have no doubt in the next few years we'll see some on the market for more and more vehicles.

Ya, I don't think anyone will make a housing for non-current vehicles just because the amount of R&D involved. There are so many vehicles that people mod that the market is too vast. Gotta think about Tacos, Tundras, Jeeps, Ford trucks/cars, Chevy truck/cars, Nissans truck/cars, etc. It would be cool but I am not holding my breath. Those Daymakers do look awesome though.

Oh, trust me, I'd rather stick with a retrofit anyways.

The light output and cutoff in retro's is awesome. I am just not sure I like the look of the retrofit itself. It may grow on me. The lenses on my stock housinga are pretty scratched and sun beaten...I think the thread has be officially hijacked...oops lol

Either invest in a new set(I would) or buff out your current ones. There are tons of designs and ways you can go...you'll be amazed if you search deep enough. My bad OP!

Ya I saw a bunch of designs. The ghost eyes or demon eyes were pretty cool looking. I do like your flat black ones. I was thinking about trying to buff mine as much as possible and just trying it to see. I currently have new smoked assemblies on and was thinking about retroing those. There are some changes coming up and I may be moving to Japan so the retro may never happen lol

I like mine. It ties in with the rest of the satin black on my truck. Just make it yours, but take your time with it. We'll be here if you need anything when you get back. Navy I see. A few really good friends are stationed in Kanagawa. Well, keep us updated.

Exactly where I am going. Just got back from Okinawa.

Thanks for the support, I will probably pick a few brains when I decide to take on the mod. How was aiming for you? Heard that can be a nightmare. Not sure if it matters which gen you go with right?

I have set of led head lights from cs jumper(stickied thread in top of 2nd gen for sale section)

    Love mine

Not as bright as hids but brighter than stock and actually used the reflector properly so you don't piss everyone off

Supposedly there's left right adjustability for 1st gens, but I highly doubt that since I've taken off my bumper, grill, and headlights tons of times. Since the reflector wasn't being used, the projector sat differently. Differently meaning, straight and true. You'd most likely have to adjust upwards. Give me or thunderone(another member on here) a shout when you're ready to rip apart your headlights.

Those might work better. 50W vs the 22/30W on the lifetimes. Have generic reviews but should definitely be brighter. I bet they would blind they hell out of everyone though but they do appear to be "aligned" like regular halogens. Great pictures in there too.

I do find it funny that lifetime lists theirs as 2000lm and 2600lm at 22/30w but these 50w are only 1600lm and 1800lm respectively.

You should've done more research man. It took me a good year to finally decide to do my retrofit because I looked at all the options. LED, HID, FatBoy H4 bulbs at 120Watts. I mean I dug through every forum on the internet looking for alternate ways to get the most out of my headlights without ripping them apart. Now that I did my retrofit, and my dad's, I wouldn't change it for anything. I still can't justify spending $120 on a product that makes the general consensus go "Ehhh...they aren't the best, but they're better than stock." Sylvania SilverStar bulbs are better than stock and retain the ability to use the reflector housing completely. For $120 and a tank of gas, you could do a retrofit.
