So what's the deal with rear lift blocks? Do I need shackles as well to achieve rear lift? Or with the rear block in conjunction with the front strut block give me more clearance? Mounting arb on stock 1st gen with 2657016's want to have more ground clearance and worried about tires running with added weight of bumper.

    Check this sticky out. <https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/suspension-lift-info-includes-pics.142677/>

That has a bunch of useful info with pics to help explain things. Im trying to decide how I want to lift my truck as well (aka the best way without causing any damage and still relatively cheap, I don't offroad heavily I just want to fit a 32" tire and get more ground clearance).

I think lift blocks will do what you want, and you won't need to add shackles, but they run the risk of "axle wrap" which can damage your drivetrain. Your best bet might be to actually add a shackle and no block? Check out the info in that sticky above, it helped me. Good luck man!

I've actually decided to go a totally different route. I bought an arb bullbar for the front end. And bilstein 5100 both front and rear, with toytec 3" coils and 2" toytec aal, all under general grabber 265-70-r16's. That package should be more than sufficient for the moderately challenging off roading I do. Fairly regular runs at rausch creek in schuykill county pa, and the pine Barron's in jersey. Bullbar mostly for fender benders (I've had two due to weather in the last year) and deer (three in the last two years). I've invested $2135.00 thus far. Key word invested. Installing good quality parts will increase the value of your truck. These parts were designed for this application while doing a simple block lift can actually cause damage to your truck and decrease its value. Thanks for the info! I may be adding shackles as well eventually.
