I'm trying to make the decision between the bilstein adjustable lift kit and the OME. I know there are threads already started, but I just want quick opinions on what people prefer. I use my pickup to go hunting and want to be able to possibly clear 285s. Also does anybody know any good sites to get these cheaper? Thanks in advance for the help guys!

im running the rough country 3" spacer lift on my 2015. $249.99 and i clear 285/70/R17 mud tires and they dont rub when i cut the wheel completely in either direction. the lift consists of the spacer for up front, the blocks for the rear, and two shocks for the rear. thats it. im hard on my trucks during hunting season and even harder on them in the summer time. its holding up to my expectations so far and i have zero worries.
    BUT.
i did have to buy a set of offset wheels because i dont trust wheel spacers

I run the exact adjustable set. 95% street and hunting and fishing. I would not recommend it for the money. Ride isn't great at any setting over 2". It's also a MAJOR pain to adjust them with a the spanner wrenches provided. If I were to do it over again I'd go OME. I was actually considering selling them and going a different route. For the money if your set on adjustable pay the little extra and get Fox or Icons. Best bang for your buck would be OME. You'll also here guys recommending the 5100's.

Like everyone else is saying, OME is going to be your "best" option. The ride quality will ideally be better than preloading the stock coils (depends if you like a stiff or soft ride). Also every truck suspension is different, so don't be surprised if you gain more than what the kit suggests. Considering you're wanting to run 285's, the OME seems to be your best option. I preloaded my stock coils to .85 and love the ride quality. If preloaded to 2.5, the ride would be significantly stiffer I would assume and you'd need new UCA's.

Wow newbies be showing much respect. Spacers suck, please don't recommend them to people. Go OME or 5100's or even the new 6112's. And if you need any Trends Auto Coupons let me @Unchained 5150, @geekhouse23, or @scottalot know we will be happy to steer you in the CORRECT DIRECTION.

And honestly if you are in an area that gets a lot of snow and such. Skip actual Coilovers they corrode like crazy. Even the Icons

Don't wish to toot my own horn or speak on the behalf of the guys mentioned above, but the three of us are pretty reputable on helping people with their suspension questions and recommend kits based on their budgets/wants/needs.

Have to agree. I don't have spacers anymore but when I did I didn't have any problems at all because like you said I don't crawl or anything like that. I'm not saying I would recommend them because my 5100s eibachs are much nicer, but personally there's nothing really wrong with them for mild offroad use and to just lift your truck. Again not recommending them

Spacers are awful regardless if your strictly a payment queen imo. I see guys here with a $40,000.00 plus new truck driving on $200 spacers and shake my head.

I have the top kit in this link with OME 887 coils. I do mostly street driving with hunting/fishing/camping on weekends. It got me about 2.75" on my DCSB and I fit 285s with not much trimming. I'm very happy with the ride and stance and would definitely recommend ordering from headstrong offroad (based on my great experience + a lot of good reviews from others here).

Oh the dreaded spacer debate. :bored: For someone who has ran a Daystar kit for a short amount of time, the ride quality wasn't that bad. It didn't help that my shocks were worn out, but the kit performed to my expectations. Now the performance capabilities of a spacer are junk. I took mine off mainly due to the fact that I didn't want to snap a shock. These new trucks that are running spacers, merely for looks, go for it. I don't see the point in upgrading shocks, coils, UCA's, etc. with a NEW vehicle that is mainly used on pavement. If the shocks snap over 40-60k miles with the kit, then invest in a quality setup. You'll most likely want to replace shocks and potentially coils then anyway. Spacers work for many people and they love them. Of course it all depends on the size of the spacer, anything under 3" I believe is okay to run. Not to mention, they can be easily installed by the user!

@Unchained 5150 @geekhouse23 @scottalot Hey guys, you seem like big enough assholes to be knowledgeable and knowledgeable enough to not be assholes, so 'd like to lay into ya with a question:D

Since buying my :taco: I've known that a suspension upgrade would be in our future and have spent many hours pouring over threads as well as a few other online resources looking for the best option for my situation. I currently am bumming around the country and living out of my truck so am trying to take it easy on offroad craziness but.. well, ya kno:oops: ..shit happens;)

So when I first looked into suspension upgrades OME looked like a pretty sweet deal, but after more research and talking to some people it started to look more and more like a stepping stone that I would inevitably replace with a "real" setup (read Icon, King, Fox:rolleyes:) It seems ludicrous to spend over a grand on a setup that in a couple years I would spend twice as much to replace with something I could do some real trail-bouncing with.

Fast forward to the past month.. I snapped a rear shock at the mount and need to replace it (read replace both my rear shocks at the very least) so I am stuck in the midst of a conundrum: Do I go the El Cheapo route and get a Monroe Sensa-crap to hold me over until I can afford a big-boy setup? Or do I take the first in a series of OME steps and replace both my rear shocks with Old Mans? If I went the second route I would wait until I had enough money for new UCAs then after purchasing those I would wait until I had enough money for front shocks and springs as well as dakar packs for the back.

So tell me, what's the beef? Although I am trying to be careful with my truck because it is also my home, I still spend plenty of time offroad due to my travels taking me to the most beautiful and rugged parts of North America. I'm sure that OME would do me well in the immediate future but what if when I get to a point in life that I'm not living out of my truck bed I crave the ability to go Overland/Desert-racer status and bounce over ruts and whoops at 35-45mph?? Do you think that if I got to that point I would regret the money spent on OME because it's money that wasn't being spent on Icons or the like, or do you think avoiding a stepping stone is like avoiding a boat whilst crossing a river?

I bow to your collective wisdoms:bowdown:

    Thanks in advance guys:thumbsup:
