Im in a very hard decision. Im in between 2 lifts. I have a 2005 2wd taco and cant decide between Bilstein 5100's or the 3" rough country lift. I hear bilstein lift is great but when set at 2.5 you start having problems. I also hear that rough country is a very good lift but hear its rough too. I cant decide between the 2. I think im leaning towards the 3" rough country because it doesn't cause as many problems and not as bad price for everything. Thanks for all the help ready to hear the comments!

Bilstein set at 2.5" lift all day over Rough Country. Those guys are on the same level as Rancho. Lol.

I never had an issue at 2.5" of lift. Not even with CV's.

Setting your front 5100s at 2.5 in the front is asking for trouble and you'll definitely need UCAs. You would be much better going with OME coils and 5100s set at 0 up front if you want to go higher than .85. I've done 1.75 on stock coils. I don't care what anyone says, your alignment will be out of spec without aftermarket UCAs on a 2016. I had my LCA cams at the max and still had positive camber. You could see it visually like this \\ //.2.5 only compounds the issue. If you plan on 1.75 or 2.5 you'll need to get UCAs otherwise you're going to burn through tires and your truck will ride like shit and wander on the highways.

this is what I was told

Being told it is going to ruin it is one thing and actually doing it and aligning it yourself and real time and watching the numbers shift over as you make your adjustments is another thing. A 2016 is a different story because it is already riding 1" taller than 2nd gens straight outta the factory from the get go.

On 2nd gens you can safely set to 2.5 without the need for UCA's and run it while being able to obtain at least 2* of forward caster. This may vary from truck to truck due to variances in the frame and tolerances and whatnot, but on mine I was able to obtain 2.0 and 2.2* of caster on the left and right side. Not necessarily in that order, but you get the idea.
