I want to purchase the Bilstein 5100 front and rear shock set. The new shocks will add up to 2" of lift to the front, and 1" to the rear.

If I set them to the max (2", & 1") will I be able to add 17" wheels/tires. Currently the truck has 16" wheels/tires. It's a 2018 TRD offroad double cab.

I do drive it offroad in some pretty aggressive areas. So the lift isn't really for looks, I'd like to have a little more clearance for rocks - without much modification. Which is why I went with shocks.

I've never messed with the suspension on any vehicle, any help/advice would be appreciated.

Some Tacomas come with 17" wheels, so that's not an issue. The issue is what kind of wheel it is and it's specs of width, offset, etc. And what size tire you expect to run.

Both of those factors have much more to do with clearance than any 'lift'. And a suspension lift does not raise the low points of the axle lines. Only tires do that.

You can run 255 80 17s (full 33") on OE wheels with no lift at all.

Running the springs preloaded by using the high perch on the 5100's will likely give an undesirable ride quality. You're better to lift with using the proper spring and keep the low perch setting.

BTW, there is a suspension forum and a wheels/tires forum that might be helpful to peruse.

Take a look on the suspension forum.

Don't lift by pre-loading the shock, get different springs if you are going for lift. The rear shocks will not do anything for lifting the truck, an add-a-leaf or leaf pack will.

17" wheels will fit without an issue. Be careful with tire size and wheel specs, because you want to avoid rubbing. I have 885s and 5100s in the front and 255/80 R17's on stock alloy wheels and they rub a little on one side at full lock.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll check out the suspension forum.

I think that can be solved by going to the OE T4R wheels.......... pinch of offset difference.

I've been looking around for real cheap used ones for about a year now. No luck yet. Don't want to spend money on wheels that are going to get all scratched up anyway.
