    I'm new to the forum so please accept my rookieness. I've recently bought a 12 tacoma, I'm looking to lift it roughly 3inchs. I know that rough country has a cheap affordable lift, but I've heard it's junk and to stay away from rear blocks. Can someone push me in the right direction for around the same price of a little more? Very minimum off roading will be done! Pretty much just for the looks! Thanks guys!

    Are you a prerunner, 4wd, 5 lug?

    Best bang per buck is 5100s front & an add-a-leaf rear. You'll spend a little more but you get better parts than rough country.

    I thought for up front you need new coils or at least coil spacer? Sorry guys I'm new to all this lol

    In this case you would use the stock coil.

    So simply the 5100s will lift the front? That's all I need is new shocks? And a AAL in the rear? For a 3inch?

    If this is a truck you plan on keeping for a long time then I would suggest to stay away from spacers, they can be horrible for your stock shocks and tend to give a pretty rough ride. I would go with the billstein 5100's and eiback coils for the front and the AAL for the rear. That's the route I went with mine and it rides great. Just ordered my Light Racing UCA's last night so I can get my alignment back.

    No more than say 500 bucks, but I was reading up on the 5100 route and it was saying is you put them at 2.25 or whatever the highest amount is, and it said that the front diff dosent like it to much..? And another thing is I've heard you Can stick with your stock uca? But as I said if the went with the 5100s they would def be at there highest point.

    Billsteins set at the highest setting can have a rough ride. Stock UCA's will be fine for that even thought it's suggested to get new UCA's for anything over 2". I wanted new UCA's so I can get my alignment back to stock with the 3" lift I put on. The lift I have is from toytec and it was right under $700. My advice would be to save up a little more and get it all at once in a kit or just get the billsteins to start off with.

    If you take the time to read through the site here you can learn A LOT. I knew nothing when I joined here and now when I talk to local shops here that try to steer me in a bad direction for their profit I am well informed. It won't take you long to figure it all out. 5100 around with the AAL is the most bang for your buck. Steer clear of blocks and spacers.

    It might be a little over $500 but the best beginner lift IMO and many others is:

    -OME 885 Coils in front
    -Bilstein 5100 shocks in front set to .85
    -Rear AAL
    -Optionally 5100's in rear set to zero.

    I have that setup and its fantastic. Full 3" of lift, still able to be aligned, and the proper way to do it. Stay away from spacers. EVEN IF they werent bad for your coils, they offer zero functionality.

    Ryanr623 do you have stock uca? And how can settings the 5100s at .85 give you 3inches of lift?

    If you're not offroading lift blocks and top plate spacers will work just fine. Keep in mind a lift will change your stock ride, for worst. It will be stiffer. Allignments will be more difficult, you run the risk of vibrations and your handling will suffer. Toyota suspension engineers spent 1000's of hours designing your stock ride. You will be throwing all that out with a lift.

    If you're doing just for looks I think its something to consider.

    5100's are a fantastic offroad shock. On road = STIFF ride. You definitely will know when you hit a pothole with these.

    Why?

    A mild block lift for on-road use will last forever. Pre-load spacers compress your coil but so do 5100s. Obviously a full suspension lift is the way to go to keep some comfort and increase height, but if you're trying to save money and not going to offroad..a top plate spacer lift won't be the end of the world.

    Sounds good! Thanks man. Ill prob just go with the coil spacers in front and AAL in the rear. I'm I gonna need new shocks in the rear?

    I am thinking about doing a readylift leveling kit on my 2013 trd sport. I am getting the 3" spacers for the front and the 2.5" blocks for the rear. I too will not be doing much off roaring. Mostly for looks and to fit larger tires. What does everyone think? Am I going to have problems. I keep hearing about axel wrap??? What is that and why does it occur with blocks?
