Yeah, don’t care enough to dig through my files to prove my point. All I can tell you is that I made a grand after parts and driving it for 5 months.

The most important resale issue in my experience has been service records that prove all required maintenance and even more than that have been done. Then a 3" lift as described by the OP is a plus. 3" lift, no records, much less interested.

mass market, little to no. Run into the same issue with lowered vehicles. In fact you can get into the opposite problem, where it could decrease your value because it isnt stock. And in the mass market, people get skiddish regarding non-stock vehicles. Raises the question of what has been done, who did it, and was it done right.

different story if you sell to a niche market like through a local enthusiast forum where people know the mods and parts. There, a 1/3rd rule works. Where a mod worth 1k will net u $300-400 more above stock

My last Taco a 2006 DCSB was lifted and had little if any effect on price. I did remove my larger 285 tires and aftermarket wheels which I sold separate. Went back to stock TRD sport wheels and tires. Personally I would buy something already lifted. My current 2012 DCLB was lifted soon after purchase.

    Don't think too hard, it's bro-math.

    How it works for non-bros:

Step 1) buy truck from dealership
Step 2) install shitty & ugly aftermarket parts
Step 3) Sell older and higher milage used truck back to dealership
    Step 4) Profit

Jumping back in here - I appreciate all the feedback. I agree with all the comments that TW people are more likely interested in a lift / doing it themselves, so far the pole numbers support this completely.

That being said - like @CaliforniaTacoTuesday mentioned, I live in the south where lifted trucks own the road so I would wager that the TW bias is more or less equal to the North Carolina bias.

After reading through the responses I feel pretty confident in a few things:
    1. Lifting the truck means narrowing my potential resell market.
    2. I stand a decent chance to return SOME of my investment because of the heightened interested in big trucks where I live.
    3. If its what I want to do, then its worth it - but don't cheap out on the build quality.

Anecdotally, I know a lot of guys in my area who get caught up in how "cool" a truck looks and are willing to spend way too much money on what amounts to a $100 spacer lift. I'm not looking to take advantage of that, but I would think that a high quality lift would stand a fair chance of returning at least some of my investment in the long run. For me, I'm not looking to justify the build cost as much as I'm trying to avoid hurting my resell value significantly.

    Thanks, good discussion!

Shitty aftermarket parts? I get that it’s not your style... but the parts I put on that truck were far from shitty. Nice subtle jab though.

I recently did AAL, Fox 2.0, Wheels and tires on a 2015 with 20k miles, I had similar reservations as OP. Just decided take all stock stuff saran wrapped it and storing it in the garage, IF I decide to sell it I will sell it as stock and sell the parts on the side. I do not offroad anymore, just go to Baja races and spectate, but was also tired of driving a stock truck..

A few years ago my wife and I were planning our wedding and the bills were racking up. In an effort not to go into debt, I bought a used 2wd Nissan Titan (from a private seller for slightly less than market rate) and threw a lift on it with some used MT tires and flashy rims (all purchased and installed by pro's at retail price). It was a mall crawler and probably wouldn't have handled the mud too well.

Two months later I sold the truck to a rich high school kid for about $4k more than I had in it. The point is, if you do things tastefully, know your market, and keep the mindset of protecting the resale value, you should be fine.

Here's a picture of the Titan:

I'm super anal about doing and maintaining records of all the routine maintenance. I've also sold numerous vehicles over the years. Very rarely have the service records ever positively impacted the resale value.

IMO, when buying a used vehicle people are much more concerned about the vehicle running smoothly with everything working as it should. All of the maintenance records in the world don't mean jack if the vehicle runs like shit.
