I am looking to just do a level set up. Something like 2" in the front and new shocks in the back. What type of set up is good for this? Also would like a softer ride, kind of like the ford raptor has... I have looked at bilstein but it seems like it will stiffen things up. Suggestions? The less expensive the better.

Don't get spacers first of all. Secondly, get eibach springs for about 2'' up front to level the truck. Also, get the 5100 springs along with the springs for a better ride. They can also be adjusted up to .85'' higher to get around 3'' lift if you ever decided to do that.

Get some 5100's and set them at 1.75" and call it good.

This won't stiffin up the ride? This is what I was leaning toward but saw it could ride a little rougher based on other posts I read.

im looking to achive the same results, would like the truck to soak up the bumps better instead of just bounce over. im really leaning towards 5100 but i have also researched and found the same mixed reaction as u. so thanx for posting this and hope to hear ur results.

Compared to stock yes but a lot stiffer no. Besides the shocks are valved for the preloading.

If you want the softest ride, keep it at stock height, with the stock coils. A better shock could make it ride better (5100's or Bilstein 4600's would be a good option). Anything you do to lift it will have a stiffer coil than stock whether it's preloading stock coils, OME, Eibach, Fox, King or Icon. Even with the stiffer coils, with a better shock, the truck can feel a lot more controlled so you might not notice the stiff coil.

This is good info but I know the ford raptor has a baja like softer ride. I also know it is using an expensive fox racing set up. I guess I am just trying to achieve the poor mans version of this.

I hate to say it but there isn't a poor man's version of that setup. The Raptor, or any of the remote reservior shock setups are meant for bigger hits and fast suspension cycles. I would also be willing to bet that the Raptor's coils are stiffer than those on a standard F150. The difference is the way the shocks perform to make it ride nice and smooth.

Something like an Old Man Emu setup would make the truck ride better, but you will feel the stiffer coils in certain situations. In many cases, people generally think it makes the truck feel like a truck and overall a better performer. You might want to see if there is a local member with a lift who would take you for a ride in their truck. Stiffer coils doesn't always mean a harsher ride. A good, quality shock makes all the difference.

What are you trying to accomplish as an end result? Do you off road, do you haul, are you just looking to level the truck, etc? That might help narrow down your options.

I'm looking to do kinda the same. I've read that 5100's will be slightly stiffer or close to the same with SR5 or Sport coils but rougher if you have an Off Road. This imo looks to be the best option for the $ unless you want to spend more for some new coils.

Just trying to level and soften up the ride. I do minimal off-roading.

Softer on the road, softer in high speed off road or slow speed off road?

Honestly, your most cost effective option would be to get the 5100's and set them at either .85 or 1.75. You will be effectively making your coil stiffer but the 5100's do a nice job controlling the stiffer coil. The end result is a more controlled ride. The best option would be a high end coilover that could be custom valved to your specs but you're talking some decent money to make that happen. For what you're describing, 5100's and stock coils will work just fine.

'Softer' ride is very hard to explain what you actually want. The best bet is find a local member and go for a ride, see what you like. Suspension is too expensive to guess and check.

for me its the day to day driving thats the rough part i dont mind it off road as much. just looking to soak up the day to day i haul and off road very little; truck seems to bounce over instead of absorb . talked to down south motor sports today he said the 5100 would stiffen ride some; so probably not what i am looking for.

I wouldn't go above .85 or they keep stiffening up....no way around it!

Any "offroad" shock will be firm as it can't be soft and firm enough offroad at the same time, there's a compromise. However, these shocks handle better in general and may be "firm" but feel better since they're more controlled. You're best bet is a 550lb spring on a high end coilover (Icon, Fox, King) and keep most of the preload off!
