Just picked up a TRD Pro and need advice on a lift. Truck has a squatty look to it and need all the height I can get. Want a ARB bumper on the front, should I wait for the lift after the bumper is installed? Any advice appreciated.

First of all you don't have a Pro, and decide on what bumper you want, and I would either do it all at once. Or do the lift first then the bumper.

Did the dealer / seller tell you your truck was a Trd pro?

When you say TRD Pro, what do you really mean?

I suspect that you paid at least $20k for this truck. How is it possible to spend $20k on something without actually know what it is you're buying?

Could it be a T|X Pro? May have gotten confused. I loved my T|X when I had it. Rare breed...

Sorry, it is a TX Pro. Found one with 4400 miles and basically brand new. Nothing is wore out on this truck, been sitting in a garage for almost 5 year. Hate the squatty look so trying to raise it up and asking advice.

Sorry guys, I'm older than dirt and not computer savvy to say the least. I bought my first toyota pickup in 1980 and wasn't a pup even back then. I'll try working on some pics tomorrow and get them posted. I knew I would take a trashing for not posting pics! I just needed a new hunting vehicle and couldn't pass this deal up. Now I need to get it up off the ground as much as possible.

The TRD pro suspension, plus Ome Dakar leaf packs are a great deal

OP. Note, A lift will not get you more ground clearance. Ground clearance is governed by wheel size. For example a 32 inch wheel will get you about 10 inches clearance. 33 about 10.5 inch clearance. A six inch lift on a taco with 32 inch wheels is still 10 inches of ground clearance.

Actually since the tires touch the ground, ground clearance is zero.

You can only get better ground clearance by getting a hover craft.

Not sure why some people feel the need to bring this useless information up when talking about lifts. Lifts are still very much functional even if it does nothing to improve the distance between the axle/wheel meet point and the ground.

Thanks for the advice. I understand the clearance issue. Where I hunt in Mexico, it is very rough and rocky and anything I can do to get the cab farther off the ground will help. It has the 16" wheels and will need to upgrade to 10 ply mud grip type tires. What's the tallest tire that will fit on this truck? Any recommendations on style? Not interested in wide tires, prefer skinny and tall. I have plans for armor wrap along the side and over the wheel wells if necessary. If someone wouldn't mind posting some pics for me while I try to figure it out, I would be happy to text a few?? Just pm me a phone number and I would appreciate.
I priced an ARB bumper today, $1700+ out the door installed at 4WD place. ????
Thanks again for the prior advice.

A bumper is super easy to install yourself FYI. Save yourself the money and put that labor cost towards your new suspension!

255/85 R16 Tires should be the tall/skinny you're looking for. It's not a super common size, but you'll be able to find them in an off road tire.

Tacoma's don't really have any armor that wraps the fenders unless you're getting something custom built and even then I don't believe I've seen anything along those lines. Most guys run rock sliders with skids... plus bumpers front and rear... high clearance rear bumper if you don't mind cutting up your fenders.

Tons of places to get armor from, I wouldn't limit yourself to ARB. Pelfreybilt, SOS Concepts, Mobtown Offroad, CBI, RCI, AllPro + tons of others sell armor specific to the Tacoma. Keep a sharp eye on shipping prices, as that's often the deal breaker.

With a bunch of steel armor, you're going to have to beef up your suspension. OME with 886 springs and Dakar leaf pack is the cheapest route as far as I know.

Other guys with way more experience than me will chime in I'm sure.

Many thanks for all this advice, I've driven these little trucks forever but never put much modifications on them except for front and rear brush guards. This suspension talk may be Greek and I may be an old timer but I still listen and take advice.
