Upper Control Arms are SUPER easy to swap out. All really needed is jack, jack stand and normal socket set and wrenches If you do need new control arms there has been some issues with SPC and quality control recently, upside is is that they have been good with warranty swaps. Unfortunately for me mine went bad on a trip and had to swap but they sent me another set
Make sure you are not rubbing on the pinch weld or the plastic. I just went up in tire size and had to do some plastic cutting and hammering of the pinch weld.

Yeah going with skinny 33’s and selling the 285’s would probably be the easiest and least expensive way to mitigate the rubbing while keeping the extra height.

Easy compared to what? Getting the UCA bolt out and back in was not trivial compared to the rest of my suspension upgrade.

I swapped out the SPC for OME. The hardest part was the long bolt up top. Think both all together took 2 hours at most and it was my first time doing it ever

2 hours for one bolt sounds like a hard job. Not an easy one. :)

1st problem is, you bought a street Taco, with street tuned shocks, and small sidewall aluminum rims. 2nd problem is the shop sold you a crappy lift, when you should have gone with Bilstein 5100's for that price. 3rd problem, anyone's old aunt would have told you 285 would rub, and the garage flat-out lied to you when they said, "it might" rub. They already knew it was rubbing.

    1) It should
    2) Sounds like a wheel balance issue. You stock aluminum rims could have also possibly taken a beating with the street tires..
    3) A rim with a +offset willt help, but you may still need the spacers.

2 hours for both sides. Not 2 hours per side and the 1st time doing something is always the hardest

As others mentioned, new wheels are a better solution that spacers.

This thread is a train wreck.

To whom recommended the “easy fix” of aftermarket UCAs - the OP went with the cheap lift because cheap. Spending as much on UCAs as the entire lift is probably not in the books.

As for the original poster - sit down and talk with the shop. They PROMISED no rubbing. Have them put the truck back to stock and start over with a 2” lift with Bilstein 5100s and skinny tires aka “pizza cutters” unless you’re convinced that the extra weight and width of the 285 is required.

Continuing down the path of working with this shop who continues to make money off you by selling you another “fix” (1.5” spacers) will gladly sell you more parts and labor to then fix the next problem (rubbing on the wheel well/cab at the front mudflap location).

When i lifted my truck i got a vibration idk if thats what you meant by wobble however it was when i was slowing down. I used some shims to fix that. Lifting the truck messes up the geometry of the drive shaft and causes vibrations. No way to get around that if you are lifting it more than like an inch.

You expect a shop to do this all free of charge? This is not a sarcastic response, I am legitimately curious.
From the talks I've had with them so far, it sounds like all of the labor, new parts and new tires would be coming from my pocket.

    EDIT:
I could see them maybe switch out the tires and change the lift as that is part of the rubbing issue, but asking for different a suspension is stretching it..

UCA’s are absolutely NOT easy on a 3rd Gen Taco. Not. At. All. However, they will help address certain issues. I have a set of JBA UCA’s I plan to get professionally installed in the spring. I did my entire lift myself (6112/5160 Bilsteins), 1.5” ICON AAL packs in the rear, etc…and I wasn’t able to do the UCA’s. Could not get the bolt out of the drivers side, and decided to not even try the passenger side. To say it’s easy is disingenuous at best.

I think I'm going to go with the 1.5" hubcentric spacers.

Will report back if things break.

    Sounds good. Things won't break.

This thread is going too many directions...Long time lurker here...I think it's funny everyone on this forum recommends expensive, big name parts and fixes for minor problems. Most of you guys sound worse than the shops trying to upsell the OP on new parts for all the issues o_O

It's pretty common to rub on the UCA with stock offset wheels and large/wide tires. Wheel spacers are probably fine as long as you're not hardcore offroading, racing, and/or jumping your truck. I wouldn't let everyone scare you away from wheel spacers. I've known lots of people who have run high quality wheel spacers for years on many different vehicles and have never had an issue.

Wheel spacers may create new/different rubbing problems, but hopefully it's just minor plastic trimming. If it were me, I'd start with a set of wheel spacers before ever considering a different lift, wheels, tires, or UCAs... (as long as you're happy with the OEM wheels). If you have the money for those, great, but those aren't "cheap", easy fixes in my opinion.

    Thanks!
This thread stressed me out lmao. I'm not doing crazy offroading, simply trying to get up a very deteriorated logging road that is a disaster during winter.

I do like the OEM Wheels -- I was considering changing them out because I thought they'd look goofy, but IMO they look fine with the tires.
If I choose to get new wheels down the line I'll make sure I get ones that would replace the spacers if possible.

You are an outlier if you think bending sheet metal and unsecuring wiring harnesses or applying cutting tools to remove a bolt is easy compared to other bolt removals. It’s pretty well documented that the UCA bolt removal is a PITA.

I have a Sport, Bilsteins all around (6112/5160) CM chop, wheel spacers, yeah I know!! Did a bit of cutting and hammering to
fit my 285/70/17, of course alignment. It did rub on hard turns or hitting a speed bump fast, but after the cutting and hammering,
    spacer, it ended the rubbing
I would recommend a good alignment by someone that knows what they are doing, mine did shake, but after the alignment all good!!!
