I have a 2018 trd off road, and have been considering giving a bit of a lift to it. I do occasional off roading, but it is pretty light. Mainly mud in the pasture while working. I am a fan of the ride quality the suspension gives right now and don’t want to effect that too much, but i want to give my truck a more aggressive look. What would be recommended?

wheels and tires. if you’re happy with the way it rides and handles now, i wouldn’t touch a thing on the suspension.

Depends on how crazy you want to go big tires means more lift to clear cab mount or body

Depends on if you want an instagram truck or not.

Sounds like for you tires would be first.

Tires should be your first choice then. You could run an off road tire in the 255/85R16 size. Will net you around 1-2" of height and give you a larger tire with better off road tread than stock tires. My stock tires measured right at 30" under load, put the Toyo 255/85R16 on there and they measured right at 33" under load. Net 1.5" lift and more aggressive tire look and performance for only the price of tires (no lift or wheels needed from stock). If you want a softer ride still, go with the Cooper ST MAXX or other Load C tire in this size. The Toyos in this size are heavy and stiff and will negatively impact on road ride (not substantially or unbearably in my opinion; but, noticeable).

Not really interested in an Instagram truck but something functional. Would a leveling kit be an option to get more clearance or is that going to effect ride?

Im looking at doing the same thing Im not looking at doing a lift like the idea of a bigger tire . Using that 255/ 85/ r16 you won't have any issues with rubbing anything ?? 265/ 75/ r16 and the tire your talking about different ?

I do not have any issue with rubbing, on or off road. The catch here is if you change the wheel you may have rubbing. The stock wheel has the perfect offset and backspacing to allow the 255/85R16 to clear. There is a thread dedicated to this tire: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-skinny-on-skinny-tires.529656/

The 255/85R16 coverts roughly to a 10" wide, 33" inch tall on a 16" wheel. The 265/75R16 is roughly 11" wide, 31.5" tall on a 16" wheel. These sizes will vary between manufacturer. For example, my Toyo MT 255/85R16 actual measurements are 10.2" wide, 33.5" tall (slightly larger than its competition in the same size). The stock tire measures approx. 10.7" wide and 30.6" tall. So, not noticeably skinnier than stock but significantly taller. The ratio for lift from a tire is 2:1 (tire size increase to amount of lift). Without even considering the load of the vehicle the Toyo's net approx. 3" taller tire and 1.5" of lift. Tire pressure, load rating, and weight of vehicle can impact how much the tire "shrinks" under pressure so the lift characteristics may be more or less when under load.
