The size wheel/tire you can run will be dependent on the amount of lift you use as well as your openness to do things like fender liner trimming and a cab mount chop. I suggest you figure out what tire size you want to run by looking at pictures on the forum and design your build around that. Good luck!

285 you’ll need a lift to fit. At least 2 inch in the front. Don’t do spacers.

I did the lift 1st. Driving around a month or so like this. Here is what it looks like with 2in lift on oem wheels and tires. I finally get my new wheels and tires on this week.

If I ever decide to do a lift (which I prolly will now since I'm installing a winch and need stronger front springs anyway), the tires will come thereafter. And they will be pizza cutters (tall and skinny).

This seems to be a common misunderstanding here. The usual up to 3” lift will have zero effect of tires that will fit over stock.

Yes and no. On a mall crawler that never actually uses the full suspension, the lift will provide some clearance.

This is why you see so many posts on here about "I put 285s on my truck without CMC and have no rubbing! I also never crank the wheel or even drive over a speed bump..."

I agree it lessens the amount of times it does rub, but it will rub and there for doesn’t fit. You also don’t need to be off-road to use travel, mall crawler entering a parking lot entrance too fast on 50% lock can easily hit the area you do a CMC.

Personally I bought my wheels first because I knew the exact lift that I was going to purchase. Then I installed the lift, and a few days later I purchased the new tires. I guess it’s a matter of opinion, but this worked out well for me. Good luck!

As I get older I become more and more of a cheap bastard.
On my new 2021 Off Road , I did 16 inch rims first and kept the stock tires. Once my oem tires get worn out, then I will do tires and suspension.

that’s not even English haha. And yes, a slight amount of lift does matter for non pros to fit larger tires… and yes, wheel size and offset makes the biggest difference between rubbing and not rubbing.

Im having the new 2021 trd lift put on on wed. 2” front 1” back. Also includes the toyota grill so i dont lose my front sensor. Does anyone know what wheel size I’ll be able to use without rubbing? I dont think i want to make any cuts on my baby..

I have the same lift. I'm putting on 17x8.5 with 0 offsest and 265/70r17 this week. Everything I have read on here is this is the largest size tire you can run without cutting as long as dont have crazy negative offset.

I got my Ray 10s first and due to them being wider, my truck looked pretty bad with stock tire size and wider wheels.

As other say, depends on your desired tire size and wheel specs. I’d say lift and UCA if you’re going 33s. Tires and wheels after. Either run the tires into the ground or sell with the wheels when you upgrade. I went the route @turkeycreek29010 went. Lift first. Wheels and tires next (wheels on back order)

I bought the wheels and tires and put them in the basement. Then when it was ready for the lift I did it all at once.
