Maybe a dumb question, but I've never pulled an engine before... the FSM says install a second hook in the rear of the head, as lift points on the cylinder head.

So what is recommended to hook to if the head is already removed? Do I just temporarily reinstall the head and use the hangers? Or attach to the engine mounts? Seems like it could be tippy then.. I dunno

    I got a 4 cylinder 3rz 2.7 liter tacoma.. it's a 2000

    Thanks!

Pic of hanger of front of head.. I'm holding it right in front of the bolt that it was installed on...

So your saying, put the head back on and lift from the hangers?

I dont really want to put the head back on yet, it's going to get resurfaced next week anyway.. but I just thought if I put a few head bolts directly in the block, and uses those as anchors with chains, that it may hurt something on the mating surface to the head. That's why suggested the engine mounts. Maybe I'm over thinking it..

    use your head bolt holes.
Get some spares bolts (same diameter and pitch as your heads bolts), a large fender washer and loop some chain under it
