Lift Question: Bilstein 5100 or Not?

I am looking to lift my 2019 Tacoma Limited 4x4 about 2 1/2 to 3".

A local shop (highly recommended to me) gave me a quote that included Bilstein 5100's on the front.
Another regional franchise (Les Schwab) quoted me a lower price but was not changing shocks, using only spacers (and perhaps a spring leaf).

I believe one of the benefits of Bilsteins would be to easily change truck height; but what else am giving up (if anything) by going with the less expensive Schwab set-up without Bilsteins? Ride? Handling?

    Thanks for your thoughts!

It’s not an easy change, per se. if you’re looking at tire shops to install suspension components then it won’t be cheap either.

They're better than a spacer lift. They’re not for 3” lifts.

Depending on your expectations, probably are perfectly fine.

214DD164-DEC1-4A84-8261-7F809435F092.jpg I just got the Bilstein 5100s on front and back, it lifted and leveled the truck by about 2 1/2 inches and I think it looks great and rides really well too

    5100’s all around 2”
Front lift rear 1.5” aal. No complaints here. IMO great budget lift light off-roading and camping etc. Ride is stiffer but in a good way. I would recommend going to a Off-road shop for install.
    Good Luck

If you're going 5100 , put a coil spring in for the lift, I used oem coil on 4th notch and now have old man emu 887 coils and it is a huge difference. Just my opinion though....

The install isn't tough even if you're somewhat mechanically inclined and would save you some coin

Thanks all for the input. ... I guess all I really need to know is if not using 5100's and using spacers only is an OK setup?

    Spacers like a rear block?

Sorry. Maybe I don't have enough details ... I believe the front is spacers, the rear a spring leaf.

You can look up Bilsteins or eibach on google. Both lift kits are good budget lifts. Check it out Kinda give you an idea

Just installed 5100's all around. Front is on the 4th notch with stock Sport coils. Running 285/70/17 tires. Needs a 1" block in the rear to level it out. Super comfortable though

Oh wow, you have 285 on your tacoma? Any rubbing?? If I want 285, do i need to regear or anything? I have 5100/887. 2.25" lift in the front and 1.5" in the rear. It's very level.

What tire size are you running? I have 5100/887 and Headstrong 3 leaf progressive AAL. It's way better than the factory suspension. I would like to get bigger tires - 275/70/17 or 285/70/17. I dont want to do any CMC.

I will be lifting my truck at some point (2inches front 1.5 inches in the rear AAL), I am going with either 5100's or Eibach shocks not sure yet. My thought process is to do it right the first time and be done with it, a lot of people go the spacer route and end up taking it apart again to do a proper suspension lift. There is nothing wrong with spacers and blocks this is just my opinion, I am on my 5th Tacoma over the past 20 years.

I would (and did) go with 5100's over a spacer if nothing else for the better handling and ride over stock. Also, I wouldn't let Les Schwab touch anything on my truck other than what they normally do, which is tires.

Zero rubbing... that considered I did have a CMC done and I trimmed a lot of plastic on the front and rear of the wheel well!

Thanks all for the great input. I am hearing that Les Schwab should stick to tires, and 5100 (or shock upgrades) are better than just some kind of spacers!
