I'm a little confused on the 5 and 6 lug? im assuming the nuts on the tires but all i seen are 6 lug. Am i missing something? Just looking for a good price on bilstein 5100s but it says 6 LUG ONLY! I just want to make sure im not missing anything. Thanks! :p

Spindle lift a complete waste of money?...if i were 2wd I'd take a spindle lift over a spacer or DB lift any day. DB lifts are a complete waste of money, spindle lifts maintain suspension geometry, increase strength and give you more clearance than any other lifts

It is indeed referring to how many wheel studs per wheel. For the tacomas, the 6 lugs (prerunners and 4x4) have completely different suspensions than the 5-lugs (x-runners and base models). That's why the disclaimer comes with the shocks.

x2. Spindles are hands-down the best way to lift a prerunner. There are absolutely no down sides to them (except cost).

And KTP .... this is a 5 lug topic so why r u talking about a prerunner? Lmao I know a spindle for a prerunner is all good and a few companies make them but for 5 lugs no one makes them so they have to be custom made and that's pricey and not worth it IMO unless I'd having it built to go with ur LT

Well modding a truck or a car is overall a waste of money. Is it a hobby? Yes. But a necessity? No, but who cares. What I was really getting at is that Fabtech had a spindle lift developed for 1st gen 5 lugs, I was merely inquiring into suspension differences between 1st gen 5 lugs vs 2nd gen. Not Prerunner/4x4 suspensions vs 5 lugs. I've owned Toyota 4x4s so I'm familiar with the set-up.

 I was only talking about prerunners because jocruz asked what the different between 5 lug and 6 lug is.

I'm still trying to find out what are the main differences between 1st gen and 2nd gen 5 lug suspension. Is there any other differences between the spindles other than a larger hub diameter on 1st gens? Can any 5 lug 1st gens show some pictures of their spindles?

OK, I think I found my answers: looked up the factory service manuals and the stearing knuckles look totally different on the 2nd gen:
    VS 1st gen:

The steering tie rods are in front of the arms on a 2nd gen. They are behind the arms on a 1st gen. Well for 6 lugs anyway
