:amen: i'm currently running the rough country kit with a 3" front spacer and 2" rear blocks i think it rides great. my off roading is limitted mainly to logging roads and mud so working fine so far. i don't care for the rear blocks so am currently working on switching over to a 3 leaf aal to handle loads better and help off road some. perhaps when the front struts wear out i'll go the same route and upgrade then. good post @Bluegrass Taco

No, you most certainly can NOT. The average people run is 285/70r17 and anything above that requires a LOT of cutting. If you want to keep stock wheels, you need wheel spacers too otherwise you'll rub UCAs

Yes, 285/70-17 would be good. You'll rub a little but you'll be fine if you don't plan on off roading.

I have a 2009 dcsb 4x4 and Was thinking of buying from headstrong either the bilstein 5100/ 887/ Dakar/ LR UCA for 3 inch lift and 285 70 17 ko2 tires. Or getting the performance kit with 6112/5160/ Dakar. I wanted to get a 3 " lift so that I would have room for the 285's. Not sure if this kit would get me 3" and if I could use 285s. Also not sure if I would need and UCA with that kit either. I am definitely a newbie, but I want to do it right the first time with little regrets. Any help or suggestions would be helpful

First question. Do you plan on offroading at all? The reason I ask is because whether you lift it 2.5" or 3", you're going to rub with 285s. With a full 3" you'll be less likely to rub at ride height, but as soon as it compresses (turning and hitting a bump), you'll rub.

If you want to have 285s and NOT rub, you'll have to do a cab mount chop (CMC). It's where a portion of the cab mount is cut off, and a new plate is welded on, gaining you the clearance you need.

Another thing is wheels. You can't run 285s on stock wheels, unless you get wheel spacers. They don't stick out far enough, so you will end up rubbing on the UCA.

I don't plan on too much off-roading. Just some snow driving and light off-roading on occasion.

I guess if both kits would accommodate the 285 it comes down to quality and price. I can get the 6112 setup for the same money as the 5100 minus the UCAs. If I don't need the UCAs with the 6112 kit then that seems like the way to go. I don't know if the 6112 kit can get the full 3" or just 2.5" in which I wouldn't need the UCAs. I don't do a lot of off-roading. But I do want it to perform as best as possible and be as big of a lift without getting into a lot of money and having to alter my truck too much. I definitely want to stay within the 2.5 to 3". Thanks

I don't want to go cheap. I do want a good ride and a good lift and do it right the first time.
I was just seeing if it's worth it to go with the 6112 and if I could get 3" with that and use a UCA.
Or if I can only achieve 3" with the 5100/887 and I can get the UCA for the same price as the 6112 without UCA

    5100/887/ Dakar and UCA=$1600 (and 3")

6112/ Dakar without UCA =$1600 (and unsure if 3" and the need for UCA?)

Can 6112 setup get 3" and therefore need a UCA?

For around $1700 you can get a full Old Man Emu kit (885's) assembled with Dakars and new rear shocks, CB drop, and top plate spacers along with Light Racing UCA's and only spend $100 more.

That will give you 3". Also don't forget most vendors on here give TW members a discount.

Remember, for either lift to truly accommodate 285s, you'll have to do some chopping and hammering. It's nothing too crazy, but it'll be necessary for them to not rub, and for it to be done right.

I spent $650 on my lift and I love it. I got 5100s, 885s, and a 2" AAL and it rides great. As far as I'm concerned that's pretty cheap, and it's still some right.

I'm not sure about the 6112s and the full 3". That'd be a question for Marie at headstrong. Whatever you end up going with, go through them. They're the most active vendor on here and treat their customers right

Good info here, thanks guys. Just a quick question, does the kit from headstrong require/recommend a diff drop? Didn't see anything about it, but I've seen it recommended for other kits.

    Thanks.

Diff drop doesn't do anything on a 2nd gen truck. It really just twists the diff. Therefore it's not needed.

A CB drop is a really good idea however.

Awesome, thanks, I'll add that to the list. Anything else I should be concerned about? CV joints?
