The truck is stock other than the tires and wheels and I wanted to either level it or lift it while running the same tire size which is 31x10.50. I want a little more than just an inch leveling kit. Any suggestions on what size and brand for the least amount of money? I want to keep it under or around $400

Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts in the front with your stock springs and an AAL in the rear will run you around $350 if you do all of the work yourself. I did all of mine and it is a fairly simple process if you have some mechanical know how.

I have 5100's and an AAL on my 2001 DC 4wd.

What's the lift range in the front/rear?

Bilstein 5100's are adjustable from stock height up to around 2.5". They have 4 settings. Depending on the AAL it will be between 1-2.5" with most. I have mine set at the top setting which has settled to around 2.25" in the front and a 2.5" AAL in the rear.

Same as the above. I have 5100's all around with the fronts set at the 2.5 inch setting with stock springs with a 2" AAL in the rear and BPV relocation bracket. New U-bolts for the rear as well as it was much easier to cut them off :sawzall:

All in all it was around $550 if I recall.

that $400 will lift you to 25,000 feet.

Buy a couple plane tickets to someplace different.

    Enjoy, thank me later.

I'm not a lift person, but I like seeing new stuff.

I'm kinda a noob, but why are Bilstein 5100's so common in discussion here? Why are they the go-to improvement for 1st gens?

Because it's one of the most inexpensive ways to do a lift the "right way" (suspension lift rather than body/spacer lift).

5100s are basically stock shocks that are height adjustable. A better way to do it yet would be to do 5100s (set to 0") and replace your coils with taller aftermarket ones to achieve lift. Better ride quality. 5100s maxed out to 2.5" on stock coils will work but it will be stiff. Lots of people do it both ways though and are happy, for the money it's a good way to get the look you want.

It's also my understanding that 5100's are bigger/more substantial then the stock shocks. Stock TRD ones are Billie 4600's I think
