I want to lift my 16 OR 4x4, but I'm so undecided based on all the reading I've done. For now I'm thinking Boss lift/AAL/UCA. I don't off road except to get to get to different fishing holes. I'm keeping the stock rims and going with a 285/75/16.

Anyone want to chim in on what I should or should not do?

    Thanks in advance.

You probably can't keep the stock wheels and use a 285/75R16. Wheel diameter is usually too narrow for the tires, you'll have to verify with the manufacturer.

How much lift are you aiming for? Why lift it if you don't wheel hard?

Considering all the problems people run into after lifting their trucks you should just skip it since you are only doing it for looks. JMHO

Like most, mainly for the looks. Only wanting 2 1/2 to 3 inches of lift to accommodate the bigger tire.

I've read plenty of other people running that tire size, on stock rims, with no issues.

You're spending a lot of money to go 3" for looks. Are you prepared to cut up into that new truck to get those 285's to not rub? Are you prepared for the rock damage to the rocker panels/doors from removing your mudflaps up front?

I'm not concerned about the money, just the quality of the lift.

If thats the case then throw that Boss kit away already throwing blocks on your brand new truck is not going to help your ride quality.

If money is no object I'd recommend all King shocks with a full new leaf pack from OME or Deaver with no add a leaf crap. Upper arms from Icon, Camburg, or Total Chaos, to help you with that 3" lift alignment and to have some down stroke.

After that I'd invest in an angle grinder and dremel for all the wheel well cutting you'll get to do. A welder would help if you want to close up the cab mount after you cut it up.

Oh you'll also need spacers or new wheels to not rub those 285s against your new $700 upper arms.

I wish I had known for $500 extra I could have CDCs installed on all 4 corners....

Icon are great at high speed on rough ground but can really shake you up otherwise.

I didn't get remotes, so no CDC for me. I like the icons, but I also drive fast on bad pavement for the most part.

Also remember that your truck comes from the factory with a 1" lift. If you go the coil over/new leafs route a kit that get 3" on a 2nd gen will only get 2" on yours.

I knew that would be taken to extremes. I haven't seen anyone complaining about the boss lift with the AAL. All the feedback has been good from what I've read.

The OME coil over or Bilstien kits are also good ones.

    Good luck,

    Extremes?

You came here to ask for advice from people who know more than you do. I've given you first hand advice about lifting a Tacoma 3 inches and what it took to get there. Throw on some 285's, call it extreme, and don't chop the cab mounts. See you back in a few weeks asking for a shop who can do it on the cheap.

with coilover and 3 inch lift you wont need to do any chopping to fit 285's

go with the coil overs you like up front, with matching rear shocks that are at least 3 inches longer than stock. it would be best to just get a new leaf pack instead of an add a leaf now, the stock leafs since 2005 now are known to be less than the best to put it nicely. as for tires, yes, spacers with stock rims will work just fine. you will need to do the cab mount chop. the other alternative is 255/85/16 tires, the toyo's are the beefiest of the bunch in this size. no cab mount chop and no spacers needed.
