Flip the carrier bearing over. Remove the bolts, spin it 180 degrees, and bolt it back up. Should help since it will actually raise your carrier bearing.

Is this a permant fix? Or just until the shims arrive?

Permanent. I measured all the angles of my drive line and found that the carrier bearing needed to be raised. That, combined with the shims, should permanently fix your problem. Watch the video that OZ posted if you want to understand why our 2 piece drive shafts have issues. Poor engineering.

Awesome to know this about the "carrier". I'll flip it either tonight or tomorrow. I ordered the 3 degree shims for the rear axle this afternoon. I'm wondering if it will hurt anything to go ahead and flip it before the shims arrive though??

I flipped the carrier yesterday, test drove and lord behold the vibs almost completely gone! Went ahead and ordered the shims anyway but TONS better already with just the flip of the carrier.

This is why I am not lifting mine, just going 265/75/16 gave me 1/2" extra ground clearance which is fine. No way I am going to mess with my perfect driving Tacoma for looks alone.

Honestly it was A lot easier fix than i thought it was going to be! Ordered a few axle shims and flipped the carrier ( only 2 bolts )- Id lift again if i had it to do over-

Sweet. It seems not many ppl actually take the time to find the root cause of this problem. It will vary from truck to truck, year to year, but it all comes down to poor engineering.

I just lifted my 2011 tacoma DCLB with the following setup and am having some slight vibration issues.

Ome 885s with 90021 shocks w/toytec top plate 10mm spacers
    LR UCAs
    60091s struts in the rear
    Dakars
Running Toyo Open Country AT IIs 285 75 16
Installer used OME carrier bearing drop and also did a differential drop.

I am getting some slight vibrations between 35-45mph and between 63-70mph (actual mph higher since speedo not recalibrated)

The vibes between 25-35 vary. It is worse if I am stuck on a road in that speed range or if I have to accelerate fairly slowly through that speed range. If I accelerate a bit faster it isn't as noticable.

Going to bring truck back to shop to see if they can diagnose it and fix it. Don't think its the tires because they are all terrains and pretty smooth at all other speeds.

    My questions are:

    1. I am just wondering at what point I need to be concerned about vibrations?
    2. How bad of vibrations cause problems? Shop that did my truck can't get me in until next week and I want to make sure I am not doing any damage.
    3. I may try flipping the carrier bearing as others have. So to do this just flip the carrier 180 degrees by removing the two bolts and leave spacers used for the carrier bearing drop?
    4. What brand and size axle shims are others having good luck with?
    5. After installing axle shims did you keep carrier bearing as is or change back?
    6. Would passenger rear side being higher 3/4in due to + spec dakar have any impact on driveline working angles?
Any recommendations would be appreciated! Sorry in advance for any stupid questions.

    Thanks,

    AC

I installed a setup pretty close to yours- and had the same problems- there is YouTube video posted in this thread by another member that explains where the vibs come from ( driveline angles out of spec ) I flipped the carrier bearing 180 and it took almost all of the vibs away- I also ordered a 3 degree shim but still haven't got around to installing. Hope this helps a little.

I have a 2015 DCSB Tacoma with Toytec BOSS lift and tried everything. It goes away in 4WD though. Only 3200 miles and it needs the front differential needle bearings replaced I guess. Vibe is only from 5-20mph then buttery smooth.

Good idea to check your shaft alignment, I ended up using the 3deg axle shims and rotated my carrier bearing 180 degrees. I do have a slight vibration on deceleration under 5 mph but it is my mud terrains. I also did the ECG bushing, replacing the needle bearing in the front housing. all of these cured all my vibes.

I wouldn't waste your time replacing the needle bearings, It will be better at first and then it will come right back. I would recommend replacing with the East Coast Gear (ECG) bushing. Check out there website and the forum, there has been a very high success rate with these curing the vibes, myself included.

So I brought my truck to the shop that installed my lift today and we took it for a ride. They told me the vibrations I had were very slight and were not anything to worry about. Said I should let the lift settle and give them a call in a week and see how it is. The odd thing is is that I didn't really notice the vibes initially after the lift was installed a week ago. About 400 miles on it now and today they seemed a bit more noticeable than they were even a few days ago. They also said it could be just the tires wearing in and getting slightly out of balance.

    1. If I take out carrier drop spacers and reverse carrier bearing is there any concern of the bearing not supporting the drive evenly?

I mentioned that option to the installer and they said they wouldn't recommend it.

    2. Also, wouldn't there not be enough of a drop if I took out carrier bearing drop spacers to compensate for the lift since I got about 3in up front and 3 in the rear from the dakars?

    3. To add to complications when we took the truck for a drive went over a curb with the back right tire which ordinarily wouldn't think twice about. Wasn't a big curb or anything. But when I got home my back right side had this odd squeak when I brake when going slow say 5-15mph. Also squeaks when I accelerate lightly and when I let off the gas when going slow. Its driving me nuts. Can't seem to find out what it is. Thought strut dust cover may have been rubbing near top where it mounts, but seems to have clearance.

    Anyone had this problem???

Take a look at your spring pack and see if any of the individual leafs shifted or are not aligned. With the carrier bearing you are not reversing it just rotating it 180 degrees. I had too much drop and drive shaft angle at my t-case with the cb drop installed. Rotating the cb gave me just enough to give me the correct alignment and help to reduce my rear vibes.
