    the 35" tires on 3" lift thread just drained me. now i just gotta stay away from the lt and turbo bs threads. hopefully il be safe here.

    You'll probably be safe here. Quick question though: I'll get like 45hp from a cold air intake right? Should I just remove the intake all together? Asking for a friend . . . :D

    Just to clear things up a little, the leaf springs in the rear is what sets the ride height of the truck. All the shock is doing is dampening those springs, that way you're not just bouncing all around. Same thing for the front with the coils. Those are what handles the weight, and the shocks just handle the rebound so the coil/leaf doesn't decompress super quickly.

    I'm deep into mt biking and own several custom builds with suspension costing 10x what the shocks for these trucks run. I also service and maintain that suspension myself so i have an excellent understanding of a shocks purpose as a damper, just thought there might be something specific to our trucks and/or the 5100's that i was missing that could lead to a small amount of lift somehow. I remember seeing some posts stating that a member had seen a slight lift from just the rear shocks and thought to myself that there's no way that should be possible. Glad this thread is in agreement and it's cleared up.

    too many lights
    You can just route the exhaust straight into the intake each time you start it up and it won't require as much fuel as it just recycles the intake and exhaust. Not much in the way of power that I've noticed, but I get about 200 miles to the gallon this way. A lot of times I just get to my destination and leave it running for a few hours because I don't feel like stretching the hose back through my windows into the engine.

    Why not add a household floor standing AC unit inline between the exhaust and the intake while we're at it? The inlet/outlets on those are roughly the same size as the trucks intake anyway. Strap it into the passenger seat and run it off a solar panel for maximum green points.
