Today was the day, finally got my lift on. 6" BDS w 18"x9" Helo 878 wheels & 35"x12.5" All Country Ironman MT tires.

I know 6" lifts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it is mine. It came out exactly like I wanted and I couldn't be more happier about how it turned out. Yes, I know it needs a bath, but it's 33 degrees right now and that'll have to wait until tomorrow or another day when it's warmer.IMG_20170128_163901.jpg IMG_20170128_154626183_HDR.jpg IMG_20170128_164023.jpg IMG_20170128_164303.jpg

I would do a 6 inch lift but I cannot justify to myself cutting the crossmembers. I personally think it looks great if done tastefully. And you have, in my opinion, the appropriately rubber to wheel ration lol

Looks beautiful. I love the wheel size choice, fills nicely. How much did you need to do aside from the chase is cut to get a proper alignment and no rub?

Wheels are a 4.53" back space. The tire just clears the body mount, we'll see how it performs, I may have to trim and box in the body mount, but so far lock to lock and no rubbing.

    Looks good!

Those drop bracket lifts tend to look better on the newer tacomas because the trucks are so much bigger. With 6" of lift and 35"s, your truck looks relatively unmolested. But when you install those lift kits on a 1gen, which is a small truck, 35"s tend to look huge and the truck looks super tall lol

What are the rules these days with these drop bracket lifts and warranty? Back in the day it would void the truck's warranty.

Also, the reason why drop bracket lifts are not everybody's cup of tea is because they are really more for looks than function. The moment you start wheeling more seriously you'll realize that they don't really enhance off road performance at all [you actually lose ground clearance with that bracket hanging lower than the factory cross member]. Also, there are cheaper ways to fit 35"s :sawzall: :D

But if you do not intend to get into serious wheeling and just hit some mild trails and drive around town it will be all good.

Cutting a part of the frame, a cross member nonetheless, is all the proof they need :D Then you have relocating of front axle and drive train parts. Tons of ammunition against you. Just be prepared.

Cutting the frame is almost on the same category of installing after market forced induction. It is a big deal.

But back in the day it was always an issue when 1st gen guys started installing drop bracket lifts.

I would advise you to become good friends with the service department by doing ALL your maintenance there. Spend money with them doing oil changes, tire rotation, tune ups, etc.; and that might help you later on down the road if you need a warranty claim.

Unless you are good friends with them already, in which case never mind :D

Yup .. that's what I asked the Toyota people before I did my 6" lift. ... "If the lift is the cause of any damage to warrantied parts then Toyota will not cover the damage under warranty." -Toyota Rep.

Engine seems to pull them fine. Not sure on mpg yet, but I'm sure I'll take a hit

With the RC kit you can get by with notching the crossmember. I'm willing to bet I have better ground clearance on 35's with my custom skid plates, than other Trucks with aftermarket skids plates. Plus I have down travel.

I'm on a mission to make my drop brackets work :benchpress:

The ProComp, RCD and BDS have really tall drop brackets, because they are a true 6" lift, where as the RC drop brackets only drop the lower a-arms 3.5"s.

Interesting, I was always under the impression you have to cut through the crossmembers to install. How does this effect someone with a 4x4 instead of a 4x2? Does it work the same way as spindles on a 4x2? Assuming its a costly install as well due to fabrication and welding huh?

@FireMedic2290 the only reason you have to cut the crossmember is because the front diff pinion gets moved to right in the middle if the cross member. If you are a 4x2 you have no front diff, so no cutting.

If I had a 4x2 I'd go with the Maxtrax spindles over a drop bracket lift.

4x4 and 4x2 use the same drop bracket kits.
