I think youll be okay with 285s since youve got a 6speed. Their gearing is a little lower, so theyre more big tire friendly. The biggest problem i think youll encounter with the 285s will be the loss of fuel mileage. I dont think power will be an issue

Imo it’s not worth the cost. It’s a lot of money, and 285s don't have a big enough of an impact on driver feel to justify the cost

You don’t need it for 255s either. That’s what I’ve been running for the last 6 months. Really you’d be less likely to need it for 255s because there’s less rolling resistance.

Nice ride man!! I'm torn between 255s or 285s. I love the skinny look of the 255s on access cabs, sort of classic look imo

I loved the 255s but today I switched to 295s and holy moly I missed the wide look.

Saw on your build you got 17in sequoia wheels, what's the width and back spacing on them? Seems like the wheel size you have is ideal to do 255s or bigger ones as you e recently done.
Trying to figure it out so I can try 285s or 255s without getting multiple sets of wheels

They’re 7.5 wide and +15 offset 4.8 back space. Any wider than 275 you’d need spacers. I went with 1.25 but probably could have gotten away with less.

Nice looking truck! Does the single piece driveshaft have a double cardan joint on one end?
