I can't wait to see it. I have the same truck and came very close to going with the Classic III in Black. Now I'll get to see what it would look like.

Spitfire, nice truck and plans! But being you have a six lug, you have 4.10 gears. 4.88s will be a more appropriate upgrade IMO. Just FYI.

Toytec 3" Coil-overs, Total Chaos UCA, front diff drop, Boss 2.5" lifted rear springs and shocks.
    Lifted Regular Cab Picture Thread!

    Part 2

Howdy...I'm back with a bigger truck!

The Toytec lift was an absolute joy to install. Everything fit the way it was supposed to and for the most part I am very pleased with the end results.

When I was originally dialing in the front coil overs after initial installation for an equal 2.75 inches of lift I struggled with the drivers side. It did not lift like the passenger side, 1/4" of threads were equal to 1/2" of lift or visa-versa…it was very predictable. On the drivers side however I had to adjust some, put the wheel back on it, drive it for a minute, jack it back up, take the wheel off, re-measure and then do it all over again...this went on for hours because the measurements never became predictable. It was all over the chart…with the tiniest of adjustments it would pop up like an 1” and then of course the large adjustments would barely yield a change….frustrating as hell!

Finally I said screw it and drove it back to Seattle 300 miles as is...guess what I'm doing tomorrow? Yanking the wheels off and lowering it 3/4" because it's sitting to high according to Toytec techs. Oh ya, by the way their over the phone measuring process is sure as hell easier than the method they put in the instructions…good grief.
The reason I called the Toytec in the first place is because when I go over a speed bump or hit a small pothole the front suspension bangs extremely loudly on the rebound. They said lower the truck some and to call them back if the problem persists.
Also I had trouble with the rear axle degree shims fitting the new Dayton leaf springs that came with the lift, Toytec immediately sent out the right parts, which I’ll be installing this weekend as well.

Another issue I'm dealing with is the bushings on the new leaf springs squeak so bad that it’s driving me crazy. Crazy enough to rip it all out and start from scratch bad. When installing them I was very careful to not over torque anything back there and everything just fell right together…no force fitting whatsoever. Talking with the techs they recommended I disassemble everything, lube it up with white lithium grease and then reassemble. This will also be a project of mine tomorrow as well. Sure would’ve been nice to have the knowledge in the beginning though.

The Total Chaos UCA were simple to install and I couldn’t be more pleased with them either. I did have to bend some sheet metal to remove the large bolt, which when reading the reviews and comments this sounded like it was going to be a real nightmare or possible hack job…not even! If I wanted to I could’ve bent everything back, but it’s in a spot on both fender wells where it’s not visible at all…there is zero reason to fuss about this if you are considering installing these on your truck.

The general ride of the lift is down right impressive. The front end is stiff, not mushy and has very little roll when cornering, but sucks up the road bumps just as well as the stock suspension did. At highway speeds on roads with ruts the steering doesn’t try to dart from side to side at all.

There is a mild harmonic vibration that comes on at 30 and goes away after 40 mph, but this could be due to the fact the 3° axle shims are currently installed backwards…haha…long story, and another project for tomorrow as well.

When comparing the OEM spring pack to the new Dayton spring pack I was thinking this is going to be a rough riding buckboard type of old school Toyota lift, but I was totally wrong. The lift requires a 100-mile break in period and then you have to re-torque everything, which I did on North Idaho back-country washboard style dirt roads. The rear end of the truck did not bounce around and skate from sided to side, as one would expect as well. The new springs are amazing and if it weren’t for the nightmarish squeaking it would be perfect.

Usually when you lift a truck you compromise something, but in this instance the lift and Total Chaos’s UCA actually enhanced the suspension system. Oh ya one thing that I've never seen mentioned...after this lift I need to have extended parking brake cables made. When the rear of the truck is on a jack they are compromised.

I can’t forget the wheels and tires. The wheels are 17x8, I think anything bigger and the truck would start to loose it’s tough and durable look. The tires as mentioned in my previous post are 265/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs, and I’m really pleased with these tires. They don’t rub at all, they make very little road noise and cruise down the freeway at 80 without issues.

Yes the bigger tire size zapped what little torque to the rear wheels was originally available and basically turned the truck into a gutless 4 speed with a really tall 5th gear. So a re-gearing is definitely in the works for this RC taco of mine.

“BDL5589” I certainly appreciate your comment/info about my stock ratio and to be honest I thought I had a 3.58 gear ratio. Honestly from the beginning the truck has been way too high geared so I’ve been looking forward to re-gearing it before installing this lift. I just want to make sure I don’t end up with a truck that turns 3400 RPM at 80mph.

After it was all complete the truck with the lift and larger tires achieved 4" of lift in the front and 5” in the rear.

Super happy I found this forum and now have a place to talk about all this stuff. As in my real life I don’t know any 4 wheelers and especially RC taco enthusiasts here in the Seattle area and for that matter probably don’t want to :)

Next projects coming up for me and this truck are going to be finding a welder to weld on these 4xInnovations rock sliders I have sitting here in my apartment and finding the balls to rip apart my dash to install this Rostra Cruise CTRL.

As always I’m totally interested in what anyone thinks about any of this stuff…so please feel free to comment with all your advice, experience, ideas and opinions...thanks to you all!

    The finished product.

See you cant see that any sheet metal has been bent can you? And on the other side the battery box is covering it as well.

Here you can see the transfer case lowering kit has been installed, which took about 10 minutes total to complete.
The shiny metal hockey puck like spacers and longer bolts plus the hardware to lower the skid plate is what it consisted of.

17x8 Mickey Thompson classic 3 wheels with 265/70R17 tires. That little front mud flap had to be removed d/t a sharp turn while backing up rub.

Here is what stock rims and tires 245/75R16 look like on the truck after the the lift was installed.

I love it! Looks like the 2nd gen version of mine.
PS: I think your axle shims are installed correct.

Hey, I have the Rough Country 6 inch lift. I wouldn't recommend it though man. The block lifts ruin the rear leafs, especially because Toyota springs in the first place aren't too strong.
