I liked this generation better than what’s out now. Subaru has some strange design language these days with the black stripes on the bumper. It has also decided to hide hvac controls in the touch screen, which I can’t stand.

Yeah, I like the way the Wilderness looks, but I had one for a week in Utah and hated it. The throttle tip-in was *horrendously* laggy and annoying to me and the passengers. The center stack was livable, but not optimal. The ride was also too squishy.

I agree with this. This is why we went with the last of the previous gen, a 2019. They had most of the bugs worked out and yet the HVAC controls aren't like trying to operate a space shuttle. Just wish they would have put the turbo engine in some of the lesser models. The 2.5 is ok, and the CVT seems to hide the slowness, but passing power is "meh".

Man I miss my '99 Foz sometimes. Not nearly as capable or reliable as my Taco, but offroading it had a certain charm I miss sometimes.

a lifted subaru would suffice for a large portion of tacoma owners who "offroad" but if you need a bed go with a taco.

There are some amazing Subi off road YouTube videos.
Some Subi enthusiasts even install a Torque Locker to lock the center diff which make them quite capable off roaders.
It really gets down to how extreme your off road adventures are but for me, who does pretty tame stuff there is probably no where I will go in my Tacoma TRD OR that I couldn't manage most of the time in the Outback. Now that said I will admit the time I had to be pulled out of deep sand by a Silverado of all things a locking rear diff would have been nice . . . so there is that.

No, well it's all OEM Subaru. It's on STI shocks and springs.
