Help!!! not a stranger to getting my hands dirty under the hood. with that being said, this would be a big project for me and especially without my dad. When getting into this project what are some of the biggest things i need to pay attention to? What should i be expecting when embarking on this? I absolutely love this truck and don't want to destroy it. It has had a sticky lifter for about 2 months. Is that too long to leave this problem unaddressed? What other potential problems could arise if untreated? Am I overthinking this too much? Please help me save my truck

I'm pretty sure the 3.4L doesn't have hydraulic lifters, it uses solid buckets and valve clearance is adjusted with shims.
Is it making noise or why do you think you have lifter problems?

yes it is making noise, its a slight tick when the engine warms up. sometimes its present during acceleration and sometimes it's present when it's idols. I put some rosline in it and it helped but obviously never going to be a perfect fix. First tacoma btw

You need to inspect this immediately. But what makes you say it has a sticky lifter? Noise? Noise is OK.

This doesn't sound too serious but the noise under acceleration is not what I would expect from a lifter. Sounds more like an exhaust leak maybe? Make a video and post a link.

Tacoma engines tend to be noisy, the 2nd (4.0L) and 3rd gen (3.5L) v6 engines always tick.
You could post a video, I'm sure the guys here could tell you if it's normal or not.

A clip will tell all. You probably have a couple noises going on and it just takes experience to identify them easily. And even then it isn't always easy.

The ticking noise is likely either an exhaust manifold gasket leak, a cracked exhaust manifold or one or more intake valves with excessive clearance that can be fixed by installing a slightly thicker puck like shim on top of the valve lifter bucket. Toyota dealers sell the shims.

Here’s a vid of exhaust sounds, and open engine bay. Both head covers, firewall, and front of engine sweep with throttle manipulation

Almost sounds like it might have a loose spark plug on the drivers side.
