My thoughts are A. additional ground clearance with the combination of the LT kit and spindles and B. ability to run a 35" tire...

However- I like the look of a low prerunner that has a low center of gravity but has mass amounts of droop travel. Not to mention that 35's would bog the motor. The 4.0 has awesome torq but 35's will surely need to be
re geared. Being that my truck is still under the drive train warranty swapping the gears would void that.

Man what am I getting myself into....? smells like allot of money to me...!

Seriously one of these companies like TC or Camburg need to make a aftermarket lift spindle that is affordable! I understand they are hand made fabricated spindles but $1300 to $1500.00 is ridiculous! Back in the day when the 97 F-150's were popular and the only kits that were available were spindles, coils and upper arms- they had casted spindles that were a fraction of the price!

Whatever company that develops a inexpensive lift spindle for the Tacoma will sell a ton of them! Replacement spindles are easy to install, dont change the ride quality and allow for larger tires. For someone who wants to just lift their truck for looks this is the best option. But the way they are priced replacement coil overs are a better choice dollar for dollar- in my opion...

    What do you guys think...?

The locker is what comes in most TRD model trucks, both 2 & 4WD that "locks" the rear differential so that both tires have traction as compared to a open diff. that typically only spins 1 tire

Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion- I have felt the same way you did yesterday on a post I did! I like reading all the different opinions and views, that's why we read forums- If everyone had the same thoughts there wouldn't be a forum!

To be honest I have never owned a 4WD so I am being bias- I can only speak from a 2WD perspective...

Same here. I have only owned 4WD. So technically I am biased as well. lol

yea i think only the trd orff road models having the locking rear differential. the trd sports have the limited slip differential. they are different from eacother.

we each have our own opinions, like i think that putting 20" rims with low profile tires on a trd taco is silly... but if i made statements like "you can't go off road with 20" rims" then people are going to try to prove me wrong

personally, the only time i've had to use 4wd in a vehicle that was capable was on snowy/ice roads in indiana... other than that 2wd has done me just fine, so i didn't think twice about buying a prerunner

Thanks Guys, looks like I have some reading to do. Also this thread has been a great source of information for me as far as what plans I am putting together for my Pre Runner.
Hearing both sides has been a lot of help.

most 2wd trucks on here are the baja style ment for driving fast through the desert and hitting multiple bumps and jumps. a lift is required to get more suspension travel for this

I didn't say you can't offroad with 2wd. I leave my truck in two wheel a lot when i go offroad b/c its funner, however think about it: power to 2 wheels or power to 4. Its logically better with four when it gets hardcore.

gotcha! just like it's not dumb to lift a 2wd for wheeling, as long as you use it, drop brackets aren't dumb either...i have one and it's good. granted i have a higher cog, but it's never stopped me from doing 30 degrees plus off camber without ever tipping over. the point is to clear bigger tires to give you more ground clearance..so while someone said the db kit gives no extra clearance..that's only half correct..my 35's are what give me the clearance i need...without the added stress on my cv's from crankin on coils! yea i said it..here we go..db kits are mostly for mallcruizers and have high cog, coilovers are for dd/weekend wheelers and put alot of extra stress on parts, it all works out..just sas it

that is exactly what i was going to do, i think he got proven wrong and is now trying to back track...

    ok, well here's my logic:

    2wd lifted = Fast/Jumps/Desert
    4wd lifted = Slower/Rock Crawling/Mudding

so it's whatever you want to do, but that doesn't make one better than the other... and the point of your thread was to get people to agree with you that it's not "logical" to spend the money to lift a 2wd and that 4wd is the only option for true offroading

yea we're talking just taco's here right?? a 2wd taco (with or without locker) will stomp a 4x4 F250 diesel anyday. it's not just because it's 4wd that makes it awesome, it's the whole rig, suspension, tires, weight, driver, size...the taco is a great rig because it's parameters fit well into all these categories. IMO. I've seen guys do amazing things with 2wd's and leave the 4wd's behind because of their experience and having a better rig altogether. lifting a 2wd is not useless for any reason other than "it looks cool when i cruize the mall" in which case said owner should be slapped and de-badged of toyota, trd, or any affiliated status on spot. 2wd's tacos rock lifted and used!
