I’ve been looking into lifts for a while and I’m trying to decide. I keep bouncing from fully adjustable Kings or Fox Performance series to regular Fox 2.5s. Specifically this kit (https://www.customwheeloffset.com/s...-kit-fox-25-ifp-coil-over-05-22-toyota-tacoma) what I’m worried about is on other sites this kit is claimed to only be a 2” lift for 3rd gen’s where I really would like to be at 2.5” like you can get with the higher end ones. What would be any of your recommendations?

Is the lift a looks thing or functional need?

Will you be a long term owner or do you chase shiny things?

Can you do the work yourself or do you farm it out?

Kinda matters in your choices of product.

I will be keeping this truck till the wheels fall off and then I’ll put new ones on it until those ones do too! Usually I do my own work, however I’m not versed in suspension components so I likely will pay for the lift to be installed especially with the ucas. I want to off road a bit and take it camping etc. But it will primarily be on road for the foreseeable future with camping and two tracking when I can.

Should this be moved to suspension? I posted here because I’ve had some difficulty with the difference between 2nd and 3rd gen’s with how much the lift actually affects each.

I won't help you with your choices, but I think from your comment you are shy about removing that long bolt that holds the UCA. If so just accept that either you or another will have to do some sheet metal bending.

I will be going with stock tires for a bit sadly if you are referring to the pinch weld that will need to be hammered most likely so I will do that when the time comes. But if there’s another piece that would need to be bent let me know and I may reevaluate if I really want someone else working on it.

The "bending sheet metal" reference is regarding removing and installing the upper control arm bolts.
To remove them, without cutting and replacing, a bit of sheet metal must be bent.

    Cheers

Gotcha, I’ll have to look into it. If it’s not too extensive it should be okay regardless of if I have it done or I do it. In the worst case I may buy new bolts so whoever installs it can cut them to remove them. If that still would require bending the sheet metal then I might just have to deal with it.

Did some looking and I will definitely regardless of if I do it or not just get new bolts.

No, this. You expressed that the UCAs were your worry part if doing it yourself. The long bolt removal is the only difficult part for those who DIY. The rest is easy work; however the understanding of a suspension can be a challenge.

Okay good to know. The only other thing I’d be worried about is getting things warrantied from Toyota or the lift company if a professional doesn’t install it. I also am not sure how difficult a diff drop kit is to install.

heres a straightforward answer to the question. the threaded body coilovers are all infinitely adjustable for lift height. advertised lift heigh is just what its preset at. this is gona differ wildly even between 3rd gens as theres a huge weight difference between say a access cab 2wd 4 banger vs a double cab long bed 4x4 v6.

Unless we are talking about spacer/block lifts, drop bracket lifts, and spindle lifts, the advertised lift height is nothing more than a rule of thumb.

These types of lifts are based on spring preload, spring rate, and or spring length. Because of this, the actual lift height is dependent on several things including the truck’s weight and current spring configuration.

The King and Fox coil-overs you mention have configurable spring rate and preload to dial in your ride height. All you need to do is chose the correct spring rate and preload. Spring rate needs to be decided up front, but preload can be adjusted after the fact. The cost is the same regardless of configuration.

Just an upgrade for occasional off-roading to possibly harder off-roading in the future, I plan to put 33s on it, and just purely because I like the look.

Thank you that’s good to know! I anticipated the advertised was maximum adjusted height.

I won’t comment in looks, as that is very subjective. Skinny 33” tires are possible with no lift and a good alignment. See the 255/85/16 and 255/80/70 threads. Larger tires are the best bang for the bucks.
