    3 inch lift on 285/75r 16
Will the 5100's set at 2.5 in the front and about 1.5 lift in the rear fit 285/70/17?

After how many inches of lift in the front/rear would you need extended brake lines?

Does anyone know of a list that explains what each part does in a lift or is good for?

I'm trying to find a lift so I can put 33's on my truck with my stock 17" wheels. It's a daily driver with moderate off-road use and I have limited knowledge of what kind of lift to get. The shop near by that I plan on taking my truck to for the installation says they only do brands like procomp and BDS. I looked up BDS, they only have a 4" or 6 essentially and the 4 doesn't allow you to have 17" wheels.

If you go 3" then start with UCAs. You'll need them.

    Some
you won't need uca if your set at that height. the ride should be just like factory. if you go any bigger then you would need to think about ucas. as far as cv angle you should be fine but might need a longer boot. but not to sure

I need some advice from someone with experience... I have an '05 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 access cab with 92k miles on it. It was stock, never modified - I wanted to improve the stance/looks and level it out without spending a lot of money on it. I installed Toy-Tec AAL in the rear and got about 2" of lift - I had brand new leaf springs from Toyota thanks to the recall. I tow a trailer and boat occasionally, and figured this was smarter than blocks - I didn't install new shocks, still the stock TRD Bilstein 4600's all around.

I wanted to level the front just a little, so I installed 1 1/4" coil spacers, leaving the springs and shocks alone. Shocks are all in good shape still, 92k isn't that many miles, although I would probably improve the ride by replacing the shocks. I ended up with right around 2" of lift in front, so there's still a rake to the truck, but it looks much better. I've got the stock wheels/tires 265/65R17 and I will probably go to 265/70R17 when these wear out. Nothing major, don't plan to off-road other than hunting trails.

So, measuring from the center of the wheel, front drivers side is 22", pass side is 22 1/2" (didn't read about the lean until it was too late). Rear is 23 1/2" on both sides. My problem is that even at 22" and 22 1/2" in front, I immediately got the needle bearing vibration/noise - not bad, but it's there. If I switch to 4-high the noise disappears immediately. I was hoping that since I was still under 23" hub-to-fender, I'd be ok. If I have to, I'll do the ECGS bushing to correct this, but it would be a pain.

Does anyone know if installing the Bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks and setting them at 1.75" will bring it down enough to solve the needle bearing problem? I know the 5100's aren't that different from my stock shocks, but I put them on my F150 and have been very pleased with the ride quality. Plus, even though my stock 4600's are not leaking or bouncing, and ride is still good, shocks don't last forever, and at 92k miles, probably need to be replaced. Plus, I can install the 1/4" spacer to eliminate the drivers side lean that I didn't know I had - I should have paid more attention to the before measurements!

    Thanks!

Jeez, that sucks. I'm at 20" in the front now and i'm about to put on Fox coilovers that come set to 2", really hoping I don't get the vibe because the needle bearing isn't a job I want to tackle right now.

I figured i'd have to go 2.5" or more to get the vibe.

Exactly... I know it's not that expensive, but it's a PITA job. I suppose I could go Bilstein 5100's set at 0.85", but I don't think it will look as good. I am also dealing with bent/broken cam bolt adjustment tabs on the drivers side, I'm going to have to weld a bead to fix that. I may just do both sides, 8 tabs total. So, I can't drive the truck too much right now because the alignment is out of whack - not terrible, but not where it should be. Could that affect the needle bearing issue?

I also considered doing the 1" diff drop, thinking it might improve the CV angle and eliminate the needle bearing noise... but after reading the numerous posts about how little (if any) this correction does, I've decided against it for now. Still thinking 5100's adjusted to 1.75" (and removing the coil spacers) might solve the needle bearing issue. Does anyone with this setup have any advice/input?

My fox coilovers came in today, i'll report back once I put them on regarding the needle bearing.

Honestly I think you're the first person i've read that had needle bearing issues with under 2.5" of lift. I figured you'd have to be in the 3" range in order to start worrying about the needle bearing.

I'm anxious to see how your Fox coilovers turn out... Hopefully it's quiet. What are you doing with the rear suspension, anything?

I just have the tsb leaf pack in the rear and i'm doin the fox 2.0 resi's. 2" in the front should level it perfectly. I use my truck alot on tight rough trails so I want to keep it functional over looks.

I was wrong about the lift effecting the needle bearing too, I guess you can have it at factory ride hight and i think thats my case. I have slight vibrations from the front at certain speeds. Ive just lived with it. If it starts growling or buzzing like some of the videos i've heard im going to have to bring it down some until I can install the ecgs bushing
